VENT!!!! This Stinks

Published

OK, now I'm getting mad. I went to the RN-BN program orientation today and the manager I interviewed with was there. Now he tells me that though he has no problem with my LPN job history, HR seems to so they are conducting a "review". How long this will take he doesn't know as its now "out of his hands". I thought if a manager wanted to hire you HR couldn't do anything about it since its not thier decision to make.

I am so mad right now, I've been calling and calling for a month. I was told the last time I talked to this guy that things were fine. I've called since and got no return calls. I know HR can be slow but this is ridiculous. I am calling them tomorrow and asking them exactly what is the problem. Is there a question they need answered or something? Yeah, I had some short stays on my employment history. I am honest about it, can't hide it you know. But I feel like I'm being jerked around. I so feel like informing them also that my chance to finish my BSN hinges on this, not that they'd care of course.

I am so sick and tired of my LPN job history being used against me like this. The only thing I can do to change the past is to work and prove my reliability, but how the heck can I do that when I a) can't get the d#@$ interview or b) runs into HR black hole?:banghead:

At this rate I'll never get my permanent license in KY because without a job I can't do the clinical internship, no clinical internship= no license even after taking and passing boards. I have my boards scheduled for Sept 23rd. Yet somehow I don't think my situation will improve any before then. Some of my friends think I should accept a job anywhere even if its a place I have absolutely no interest in working just to have a job. Sounds like a good idea, but in reality its not if your trying to prove your reliability and longevity at a place. I don't want to get a job someplace just to say I have a job, knowing I'll leave at the first chance I get. I want to work NICU, but I am realistic to know that I probably won't get it so I have been applying to many other units at more than one hospital.

I don't know what to do anymore. I'm discouraged, disgusted, and feeling I wasted a year of my life getting a degree that I can't use. I feel like prosective employers are effectively barring me from getting my license, whether they realize it or not. I'm just lucky KY recently changed the law to allow one to take the NCLEX BEFORE getting the clinical internship otherwise I wouldn't even be able to register or take boards without having a job first.

I'm trying to be confident that I'll pass my boards on the first try. Once I do, if I still don't have a job I'm leaving KY. At least other states will give me my license once I take and pass boards. Though right now I can't even apply out of state until I take and PASS.:crying2:

Thanks, I could use all the help I can get at this point. I don't really understand what the problem is with me because its not just Nortons....its everywhere I've applied.

I contacted the nurse recruiter for Kosair that I was working with, but she is no longer covering them. The new recruiter either a) doesn't know how to return phone calls, or b) was out last week.

My resume has gone from listing every single job I've ever had in nursing to summarizing it all so it would fit on one page, which is what I'd been told to use...a one page resume anything longer an no one looks at it.

Please do send the number of the retention manager, though I haven't been working at a Nortons facility since April of 2007.

What is with all the nurse recruiters all being out of the office at the same time. I left voicemails last week and still nothing. I called today and everyone is out until at least tomorrow. So I'll call tomorrow. Nurse Retention won't be back until possibly Wed.

All I want is the answer to some questions, mainly why every application I put in gets a decline email less than 24hrs later. I know no one moves that fast in assessing applications.

Hey Zoobi, I have a feeling you will hear from them tomorrow. I know you are aggravated with them and have every right to be! Have you thought of what you will say? I can imagine what you would LIKE to say, but remember, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. SOOO, kill them with kindness and appreciation. Make them feel good. Getting the job is the important thing here. Don't forget to let us know how this plays out. Keeping my fingers crossed......:smokin:

 LOL, I don't think I could post what I'd LIKE to say to these people. But I have to remember they are not always the ones calling the shots. At UK Chandler in Lexington I was told when I posting closes the manager looks at the applications themselves, then lets nurse recruitment know which ones they want to talk to. At Nortons the nurse recruiter is the one who forwards the applications to the managers.

My question is simple, why do my applications get denied so quickly? Especially to units I've worked before.

Of course I haven't heard from anyone in Virginia either, but they will have to wait until I take boards anyway now that I have my ATT same with Indiana. The Nurse Recruiter up there said to wait until I pass boards before applying there since I now have a test date. (which btw I'm finding it difficult to study for on top of everything else).

Well, no one from Nortons Nurse Recruitment office called me back today, so I left another message. I did get a phone call from a Lieutenant from Ft. Knox to set up an interview for a position with the Warrior Transition Unit. I called her back and left a message on her voicemail. Federal positions are tricky as I was told the last time I inquired about one that I would have to have my permanent license first to apply. Well, last week I decided to send them a resume anyway, and when they ask I'll explain that in KY one can't get one's perm license w/o working 120hrs of a clinical internship. That I do, however, have my boards scheduled at least. I'm not getting my hopes up on this like I did with the last interview I had. Though I still hope it will come through. Even though a civilian position at Ft. Knox would be great benefits-wise, I'm not sure...however I'm not going to burn a bridge either.

Zoobyli- I got your last draft in my email. I haven't forgotten about you- was busy w/work. Will go over in the AM, and send you a reply. Good luck to you!

No problem

Its been one of those days, I am really beginning to hate voicemail.

Still haven't heard from the nurse recruiter for Kosair and i've left 4 voicemails, plus two on the general nurse recruitment office voicemail. I have even left messages for the nurse retention guy.

I do have an interview at Ft. Knox on the 29th, though I'm not getting my hopes up. Last time I checked I have to actually have my license, not provisional to work there. But hey, who knows maybe they will. With any luck the Nurse in charge of hiring is somewhat knowlegable about the laws in KY in regards to licensure, I so love explaining how I have to HAVE a job to get my permanent license.:banghead:

I am also torn about still calling Good Samaritan to check on my application status there.
