VEEB LPN Program (info request)

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi All,

I'll be starting at VEEB in the Fall and was wondering if there are any current or past VEEB students that can give some info on this program.

What are the Teachers like?

What are the required books?

Is the program as intense as they say?

Do they have articulation agreements with other nursing (RN) programs? If so, with who?

Are there any disadvantages in taking the LPN course outside of a Community College setting?

Do they provide job Placement at the end???

Any information that ANYONE can provide will be GREATLY appreciated! I really want to have a full understanding of what I'm in for. I have 2 year old Twins and I am a little worried about whether or not I'll be able to juggle school/studying and Family!

If you get on the 7th floor of NUMC, you'll have a tremendous experience. I never learned so much in 1 clinical rotation. You'll be dealing with all sorts of precautions (MRSA, VRE, TB, C. diff etc.) and all sorts of equipment. (EKG, chest tubes, vents etc.)

Queens Hospital on the 5th floor, a good majority are there for substance abuse, and you'll get some HIV/AIDS along with cancer and what not.

2nd semester, they put a major emphasis on trach care, suctioning and ventilator settings.

"If you live in Nassau, NCC will cost you 3,700 for the core nursing classes and 7,400 if you live elsewhere. Helene Fuld is 15,000 for the full time 1 year program, but 1199 will pay for it. On the other hand though it will be more intense since you have to take a few non nursing classes, and they won't take your college credits (besides english) not unless you CLEP them."

HF does take your college credits once, they're less than 10 years old.....After leaving Veeb, Nassau's math test is a breeze. I got a 98 bc I made one silly mistake.....lol

You must research every school because each has it's own pros and cons. You can't go to Nassau if you don't have THEIR prereqs already, regardless if you have the 90 or not. Nassau is wayyy cheaper but HARDER to STAY in I hear. It shows...their NCLEX pass rate is extrememly high, which is a plus. I was so bent on Nassau but changed my mind for HF at the last minute for reasons I can't discuss on this board. Let's just say I know quite a few people that graduated from VEEB with me last year and are in both programs.

All in all, current VEEB students just try to do your best NOW and worry about that in the last semester!!

I got NCMC 5th Floor. Any info on that? Either way i'll find out on the 4th, but just good to know beforehand. Thanks for all of your help.

HF took your A&P etc. credits without CLEP? The people I spoke to at the open house, told me otherwise, since if they do that changes a lot of things. Also I'm wondering, is HF enforcing a mandatory H1N1 shot? Not that I'm opposed to it or anything, it's just that I thought a court order left the decision to individuals.

I met with the advanced standing advisor from NCC today for an assignment packet. It definitely gave me a feel for the program and from the looks of it I better enjoy myself for the next month or so.

Ya the 5th floor unfortunately from what I've heard wasn't too great experience wise. Not unless I'm mixing up floors, supposedly minimal work was done since most of the patients would be moved to different physical rehab procedures before students hit the floor at 9AM.

And another tidbit of advice, definitely try to keep a decent rapport with all your instructors, and keep your grades as high as possible. On my recent interviews due to my lack of healthcare experience, the interviewers put emphasis on my grades and reference letters.

If I could do it all over again, I would have asked 1 instructor immediately after each semester for a reference letter. VEEB has it's "process" and it's not expedient at all.

Just cleared things up about HF. Finally got factual information. Disregard some of what I said earlier.

For those with pre-nursing college credits. HF will take your A+P and Micro if it's C+ or higher, Psych Intro, Human Dev and Sociology with C or higher. (10 years or less) English they'll take if you score a 3 on their writing test. (No Time Limit)

They take CLEP only for behavioral sciences. I'm actually pretty disappointed at the fact that a couple of faculty members had given me inaccurate information. Sorry for any confusion.

So for the core nursing courses at HF the tuition would be 9936 and add 1107 if you're unable to challenge their Math/Chem course, it comes out to 11,043 if you maximize your transfer credits.

Definitely keep your eyes on the prize, but its in your best interest to think long term.

Good luck ladies and gentlemen on 2nd semester.

Ah i'm so not ready for tomorrow, but, at the same time, i'm excited to just get it started and be closer to graduating.

Good luck and enjoy!

hey guys and girls...havent been on in a while...yollette stop feeding archie...lol...well this is all going by fast even though that when ur in class it feels like forever....to think last year at this time we were all trying to get into the school...i remember that day picking up my application and freaking out about the entrance exam...hang in there everyone...everyday just means a step closer to graduation.....goodluck my veeb peoples

Lol! I wasn't the one force-feeding that ho at the buffet when he went to Las Vegas! (all the cheese-its you can eat!)

Hopefully everyone else is getting more experience than I am currently in clinical. The rehab floor doesn't seem to be the best place for med/surg experience, thus far. Or should i say for ANY experience. But i'll have faith....if not, maybe i can just get in a lot of studying in all the down time.

Hello everyone i'm new to this blog and i'm interested in taking the pre-exam in feb to enroll in veebs in sept 2009 what should i expect on the pre-entrance exam??

I will be in LongBeach for 3 days and Holy Patterson for two, any info on these two places for my med surge experience?

Does anyone know if its possible to take the entrance exam without having your highschool diploma yet. I live in the queens area and VEEB says i need my diploma in hand this january to take the entrance exam. When i ask other schools they say its no problem. In laguardia they said if i took the math and english regents theres no need for me to take the entrance exam but there like VEEB takes more than a year to complete. In the city they said i need to be 21. I am confused!!! Anyone know any schools that offer LPN classes so i can get my certificate by the end of next year where i can take my entrance exam without needing my diploma in hand and i dont have to be older than 21?
