Phew, that was a lot but that's everything from the hand-book. Hopefully this list isn't what will be sent out in the financial aid package.
To those unfamiliar with Nashville, TN. It would be crucial to have a car. The only mass transit are buses and those don't run on schedule and in inclement weather may be shut down entirely. There are apartments available close to campus but you will pay higher for that than you would living within 30 minutes of the area. However, there are cases where entering students decide to apartment/house share to off set that cost. They usually set up a facebook page for students interested in doing that.
I'm still not clear on the out of state integrated semester. Is it something in driving distance so we can continue to live in Nashville?
For the midwifery specialty, the clinicals are within 2 1/2 hours during the second semester (after pre-specialty is completed), within 3 hours during the third, and then out of state for the fourth semester. If you have a preference for a particular place, you can express it and they'll try to work it out, but that semester is not in or near Nashville, according to what I was told. They told me all of that first thing during my CNM/FNP interview, so I think it is a deal-breaker for many folks. I don't know if it's different for people who don't plan to stay in Nashville past the specialty year.
For CNM/FNP, they try to rotate everyone through the Faculty midwifery practice at least once during the program. From what I understood at open house, it's completely plausible that you could be out of state and outside the 3hr distance range for the majority of the program. The first semester of the specialty year is the only semester they really keep you close due to classes and skills labs and such. The idea is to get us exposed to different types of settings with a variety of volume of births as we go through the program. They talked a lot about excellent clinical site opportunities in Texas, Minnesota, California, even Hawaii and the US Airforce base in Germany. The furthest away are generally by specific request though.

gabookworm, when did you find out about the integration semester? I have only read the handbook and what is available online and have not seen anything about this. I would be moving from Boston with my family and choosing to live right outside of nashville, probably in a town on the outskirts. During what part of our studies is this integration semester and where out of state is it located? Do we get to choose places somewhat closeby? That kind of turns me away from this program.
