Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty Applicants 2014

Published

Hey everyone! I couldn't find this thread anywhere so figured that I would start one for all of us who applied to Vanderbilt's Pre-Specialty Entry program (for non-RNs) this fall. I applied for the PMHNP specialty. What about you?! :)

Think positive thoughts! Sending positive energy your way. Don't be nervous -I was a bit the entire time but they expect it- I'm sure you'll do great :)

I read in last years thread that hey interview all NMW/FNP students as well. Don't freak out, be happy. I am an applicant and haven't received an interview yet. :(

Try not to get discouraged. I jut got the email yesterday. I'm sure they don't do it all in one day.

I know. I applied a few days after priority filing so I was told that most likely I will be considered for the waitlist because they generally fill the class with priority applicants first. So I'm nervous :/

Mmmm. Bummer. I understand. :/

Does anyone know if they interview FNP applicants? Or how much emphasis is placed on the GRE? I didn't do quite as well as I would have liked :/

Sarah they can but it is on a case by case basis. As for the GRE I didn't do as well as I wanted either but I was told they look at the entire picture. Also, worst case scenario you could be wait listed but I have seen people get in from the waitlist. FNP takes the most students and they also give current students the chance to reveiw your materials on the student admission committee to see if they think you've got what it takes to cut the mustard. So keep positive thoughts. Also, write a letter of response to the reviewers and explain why the scores were low and highlight your strengths. If they do call do the same. They were understanding in my case. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this thread! I applied for the AG-PCNP speciality, and from reading the other forums I don't think it's a very popular one (therefore I'm assuming no interview). Congrats to those who have already gotten interviews! Can't wait to hear back!

There doesn't seem to be as many people on the forum this year.

On a side note: can it be March already?

Did they say anything in the interviews when you should expect to hear back/any sort of decision?

Had my interview yesterday. They called me an hour late so I was so worried my interview got rescheduled or something, lol. It wasn't too bad and both professors were very nice. They asked me mostly same questions as the interview survey and personal statement, but one caught me off guard (name a recent difficult experience and what you learned about yourself). I think i did well but we'll see! They said by March 1st I'll have a decision. Looking through last year's thread, that may be a bit earlier
