Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Winter 2018

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello!

I am graduating in December and I have the summer off so I've begun looking at potential places that I'd like to work.

I'm thinking I'd like to do a nurse residency because I want to work in a pediatric Critical Care setting (PICU or Peds ER) and I feel like having that whole year with someone helping me and that I can ask questions without feeling like an annoying dummy.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here was looking at Vanderbilt's Nurse Residency for February 2018? I'm not from Nashville, but I'm also not too far away as I'm from North Alabama. I'd appreciate any tips about the residency or about Nashville!

Thanks

My friend who also interviewed for the PCICU didn't get a call either. :/ but I think you still have a chance. Um, my stats... I'll graduate with a 3.89, I've had a job as a nurse tech in the float pool at my local hospital for the last year and a half. I did an internship for 4 weeks this summer in Kenya... I won a scholarship at school? I have some volunteer/leadership experience, but not a bunch. I'm in the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau. My friend had a much better resume, but didn't get called. It makes no sense. Lol

My interview went okay. I thought I could have done better but I answered the questions genuinely and tried to be as real as possible. I highly doubted that I would get a call, but I did! She called around 3:15ish EST.

When was your interview?

It was this past Tuesday!

I haven't heard anything either but guys I wouldn't take it personally. It's hard to really grasp someone's nursing abilities and heart in strategically asked questions..chin up!

Ms. Fargo said they will be following up throughout the interview process and through the first few weeks of october

Anyone get offered any positions for Peds?

which peds track did you interview for?

Has anyone received an offer for Pediatric Surgical Trauma and Adolescent Medicine? I'm trying to stay positive!

So I was looking at the groups from previous years and it looks like the amount of people are trending up. Like 2016 was 65 people (but that might've been the inception of the Facebook page too.) then winter 2017 had 126 and summer 2017 has 295. I bet we'll be the biggest group to go through ever!

Anyone else currently work in a hospital that doesn't have a nurse residency program? Have y'all asked anyone why they don't? I work at a hospital that had” a residency a few years back” and it only had 16 new grads and someone complained about something, but everyone else loves it, and instead of fixing the issue, they canceled the whole residency deal. Granted there's like only one BSN school here and 20383920274 ADN schools and the one MASSIVE hospital. lol

Why so many new grads? Any idea?

Their residency has been around much longer than 2016. I do hear, though, with a lot of these local residency programs is that the turnover is high, so perhaps they are interviewing more people because they can accommodate them. But I do not know!

I thought they just had more open spots because more units are willing to be apart of the residency program. I just found the old Facebook pages for the residents and some people may not use Facebook or may have just opted out of the group or whatever. Either way, I'm so excited for February!

Same here! - when are we to receive onboarding materials?
