This thread is for those who are applying for the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt. I thought this would be a great place to keep up to date Inge selection process and make connections with new friends and colleagues. I am currently in my final year of nursing school at UCCS in Colorado. My goals are to be accepted for the adult critical care track an then return to school and become a CRNA. I know the job market is very competitive, especially for residency programs. I completed the online application 2 days ago and am waiting to hear back for more instructions. Good luck to everyone:)

Did you use teachers for all four references? I'm trying to think of who to use, because I thought I read somewhere we weren't allowed to use nurses or faculty who aren't employed with our school. I have a clinical instructor I'm going to use, and maybe one teacher, but I wanted to use two others that aren't employed by my school that I worked with in clinical and over the summer!
I used a professor and a clinical instructor for my two main references, both of who taught me during critical care. The alternates I used was the director of the lab at my school and another clinical instructor. I would try to use instructors/teacher who specialize in the area you are applying for.
Fellow Nurses and student nurses,
I have recently sent in my application for the summer 2013. I want the women's health track. I noticed only one other person on this forum wanted that track. Im scared about how competitive it is. Good luck to everyone!!!!
So I was just wondering did everyone else who made the second part of the application process just send in your transcripts as the only mailable part. We don't need to send in that downloaded-able online packet with the criteria and requirements listed? I just want to make sure I don't over look anything.
ME
Hi all!
I, too, am a senior in nursing school and applying for the NRP. I am torn between Peds and Women's Health, but I think I am going to go with Peds. I have read all the threads on here for past years of the program, and they make me SO nervous! It's SO competitive!
I am only snail-mailing the transcript. The only thing I have left to do is the letter of intent, which I'm not 100% sure what to do with!
I have a lot of leadership experience, but none of my work experience is directly related to nursing. I work at a special needs camp, but I've never worked as a tech or intern or anything at a hospital. I volunteer in the community, but not at a hospital. I am SO worried that these things are going to affect my ability to get in!
Glad that someone made a thread for this year so that we can share our anxieties!!! haha

Hi everyone!! I completed my packet a couple of weeks ago so here is some information for those that havent received the packet yet. You have to submit a resume, letter of intent, 4 clinical references, work expereince, volunteer expereince, and choose the area you want to go into (you only get to choose one). You do not have to get recommendation letters, they will email the references you list and have them complete a recommendation form. Hopefully this was helpful information!
