Vanderbilt MSN 2019

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

Anyone else still clinging to the post from this weekend that said decisions would go out today?! ?

They start interviews for people who applied after the deadline once they made decisions for the first deadline applicants.

So maybe that is good news for those of us who applied pre deadline??

Just clinging to any hope ?

Hey everyone! I’m a current prespecialty AGACNP student here at Vanderbilt, and there was a big lack of communication for our class too last year regarding timelines and acceptances. But it does get better once you’re in the program and on campus! Good luck everyone ? feel free to reach out with any questions, hang in there!

Hi everyone!

I called admissions earlier today and the lady I spoke to said they’re going to send out decisions by the end of the week. I’m still hoping they’ll send it out by tonight or tomorrow..

This is getting quite ridiculous. They haven't been transparent or apologetic at all. They could at least send an update email to us about what is going on, so we aren't all just guessing and confused. Also, how do they expect those of us from out-of-state to blindly plan an expensive, last minute trip to Open House?

Exactly. I live in Virginia and even if I take the shortest route it’s still a 10 hour drive...?

That’s absolutely ridiculous. Everyone’s answer is different. We deserve an answer.

I'm not entirely sure how Vanderbilt does things, but I know that many universities now use admissions software that links with the applicant portal. So I wonder if maybe the technical glitch could have not only prevented updating statuses, but also the ability of admissions committee members or the graduate school to electronically review/select admissions decisions for applicants. Which may mean busy faculty members having to find time to submit decisions on dozens of applications during a time they hadn't planned for, and graduate admissions trying to provide an anticipated timeline with uncertainty in so many schedules. I've actually found myself in a similar situation with the NP program that I've applied to, but felt more understanding after familiarizing with how many people have to review and provide input on each application and how crazy many of their schedules are as faculty, advisors, researchers, and practitioners. I imagine a technical glitch could really throw off the process, but I'm sure they are doing the best they can. I know it's still super frustrating and anxiety-provoking but they've probably extended the date to the end of February to be on the safe side and not upset more applicants with providing hopeful but uncertain dates.

Hi! Any insight on the out of state/far away clinicals situation? I was told financial aid doesn’t cover any of that time, and ppl usually coach surf. Do ppl just keep paying rent on their Nashville apts? I’m moving my life from across the country, so I am very nervous about finding a place, then leaving it vacant, etc. I feel like I’m missing something when I read about “not needing” to be in Nashville or whatever for the second year (CNM). Thank you.

Basically your second year you can move back to your home state and do your clinicals there if you’d like.

Cheers to another restless night y’all!

So it depends if you’re accepted as inside middle TN or outside middle TN. If you’re outside, then you can live wherever and you have to find your own preceptor. If you’re within middle TN, then Vanderbilt places you with a preceptor that can be within a 2 hr driving distance. So Everyone is on campus and has to live here the first year of the program, and then most people are admitted outside of middle Tennessee so they go back to their hometowns or whatever. If you’re one of those people, then you only come back to campus for “blocks” which are usually one week a month a think? All AGACNP students are required to stay in Nashville and be on campus throughout the full program so I’m not entirely sure what everyone does during block weeks but some people split hotel rooms with classmates for the week or they stay with friends who live in Nashville during that time.

Hey guys,

I am applying to the ENP specialty and I JUST GOT AN INTERVIEW REQUEST. Yes, seriously. My interview is set for the 20th. I was told my specialty didn’t even do interviews! So this clearly means that some decisions haven’t even been made. The wait continues...

They actually had interviews back in November. I had mine the day before Thanksgiving. Good luck on your interview though. I hope you do well.
