Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

Hi Gaj418,

Is this something that changed? I am OMTA area with a BSN applying to the FNP MSN program. When I called Vanderbilt a few months ago they said they have a department that finds clinical spots for MSN students within driving distance of their home.

Hi Tennisoopss,

Do not worry! If that's what you were told by your speciality then that it what you should go with. I am in the PMHNP speciality and the specialities all work a bit differently. Hope this helps.

Do you know when we will hear back from them? like interview?

Hi Robin1992-

I'm not sure if al specialities have to interview. I am in the PMHNP specialty and I got asked for an interview in middle-late January I believe and was accepted on February 14th.

I was told PNP primary care will not have an interview. Also, FNP seems to be one of the last specialties to notify applicants of their decision.

I'm applying direct entry with a BS in biology into the acute care track. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Yes they have minimum GRE scores to meet

The issue with me is that I have higher math but not so good verbal part; doee it compensate? You think

What kind of documents do we need to upload besides a resume?

Do we need to upload a resume? I don't see it as a required document?

It's not required.

Hi All-

Longtime lurker here.

I, too, applied for the Vanderbilt MSN program (CNM/FNP track).

My GRE scores are 158/155/4.0, my undergrad GPA is a 3.44 in civil and environmental engineering, and I have a 3.91 prereq GPA. Some of you have such amazing and impressive stats and it makes me nervous! I wish my writing score was a bit higher.

Last year I applied for the FNP track to Seattle U and did not even get an interview. But, honestly, I think they made the right decision. I spent the year volunteering and soul searching to find what it is a really want to do. I have experience as a volunteer birth doula, a nursing assistant, and now a hemodialysis technician. It was a great year, but I'm ready to move on to bigger and better things. :)

In my essay I really focused on what makes me different, what I'm passionate about, and what I've learned since I took the leap and quit my cushy engineering job. I agree with others- it was challenging to create fresh answers for the short answer section!

My references were both of my A&P professors (it has been awhile since I was in school), and my old supervisor at the assisted living community.

Vanderbilt is in many ways a dream school. It's probably my top choice but like many of you I'm applying to others. It was weird to put in any others that I'm applying to on the application.

Anyways- I would love to hear about your stats, backgrounds, etc! Let's get to know each other and try to make this waiting period as painless as we can. :)

Good luck everyone! We so got this!

I emailed them because I blew the quant portion of the GRE (like 20%), but have a physiology and pre-med degree with neuropsych and biochem and all. He said to just upload a letter of explanation, so I hope that will work! I didn't want to be redundant so I tried to target my short answers and then wrap them all up at the end in the personal statement.

I wish I had submitted a letter of intention for every school now..

Does every specialty track send out interviews or only specific ones?

Specializes in Midwife, OBGYN.

Judging from what applicants said on last year's threads, not all specialties will interview. From what people wrote, CNM and Psych will normally interview their strongest candidates but FNP will not interview (due to how many applications they receive) unless they need some clarification about your application.

I think I posted this before, but interview invitations are sent out end of Nov and Dec with admit or deny decision coming out in early to mid February the following year.

Ssylvia1647,

I'm in the exact same boat as you. BS in biology AGACNP track. I would've done the emergency nurse practitioner, AGACNP with FNP dual focus, but that isn't for prespecialty. My undergrad GPA is a little low, but my prereq GPA is around a 3.8. I didn't take the GRE because I was originally Premed and substituted my MCAT score. I scored in the 64th percentile overall, but that is because my psych/sociology section was in the 45th percentile. My biology and chem and reading comp were all above 80th percentile.

Does anyone know the competitiveness of each track? I feel like FNP would be the most competitive. Hopefully, AGACNP is the least. Also, does anyone know if being male helps at all? In any other program, I'm sure it would be a negative if anything, but hopefully not in nursing.

In order of where I want to go most to least, I applied to Vanderbilt, MGH, Seattle U, Simmons, and Univ. of Rochester.
