Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

Do we know how they are going to release the decisions?

Do we know how they are going to release the decisions?

You should get an email saying the status of your application has changed, but sometimes there's a glitch, so be sure and check your application portal often. :) They usually release information in the evenings so that they get less calls throughout the day.

Has anyone actually gotten in? Or did someone comment that when they didn't get in yet?

Does anybody know if it is possible to work during the specialty portion while completing the online courses (distance learning)?

Also random question, did anyone who interviewed for midwifery ask why there isn't a dual WHNP/CNM specialty? I applied for WHNP but would love to also be certified in midwife practice at some point. WHNP doesn't interview so I didn't have the chance to ask! :)

You guys. I made my husband call *covers eyes*. They told him they will be releasing decisions every day this week beginning tonight or tomorrow and not to be concerned until after Friday if he hasn't heard anything. I'm freaking out! Good luck, all!

Ahhhh! Thanks for taking one for the team and calling! I'm so nervous, I'm gonna be checking constantly :D GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

EDIT: Oh guys, I'm so nervous, I can't take it!

When did you submit you application and have you had any status change on the portal?? I applied for WHNP/ AGPC pre-specialty

@mbrnurse

My understanding is that as a Nurse-Midwife (NMW), you provide a full range of primary health care services to women, from adolescence throughout the lifespan. Also, as a NMW you will be a skilled health professional emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, providing preconception counseling, care during pregnancy and childbirth, gynecologic services and peri- and post-menopausal care. Because of that they don't offer a dual NMW/WHNP program, instead they offer a dual NMW/FNP program or WHNP/AGPCNP program to expand your scope of practice and the patient population you are qualified to care for. Most MSN programs offer a post master's certificate to expand or change your scope of practice.

Specializes in Midwife, OBGYN.

I did ask this question during my NM interview and their response is exactly what @Sunnygirl321 said. They offer the FNP instead of the WHNP because they want to increase the scope of your practice. A NM can already provide most primary care services pre and postpartum and up to 28 days for newborns so according to Vandy that already covers a majority of what the WHNP does so to increase the scope the dual specialty is with FNP instead of WHNP. This means that you can see toddlers and children in addition to newborns. They also talk about it a little on the Vandy Nursing handbook. You can download it as a PDF if I remember correctly. I personally feel there is some pros and cons to this but since this isn't the point of the thread, I can talk about it at another time.

Let us know if you have more questions, I am sure we find an answer between all the prospective NM students on this thread!

I am also eagerly awaiting the notification. Good luck to everyone!

Still no changes on the portal. :(

+1. I'm forcing myself to only check once every hour (otherwise, I'd check every 3-5 minutes lol)

@ sloanetaylor the anxiety is REAL!
