Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

I don't know about y'all, but I'm officially going crazy waiting for these decisions to go out.

I am too! I feel like a crazy person having my email open and constantly checking the portal! I know I should just wait until I see the push notification email on my phone but I can't help it...

Glad to know I'm not alone

So exciting! I honestly doubt calling will change the timeline of decisions (and is probably annoying the admissions team while they organize everything haha) but next week can't come soon enough!

Long time lurker first time poster on this year's thread! Hello all! This is def the most stressful portion of process. I applied pre-specialty FNP, very much so looking forward to answer soon. I know previous posts said that the 15th decisions meant denial but from last years experience there were some that still received acceptance letters on that day as well so all hope is not lost if you don't receive anything on the 14th! I am putting nothing but good thoughts out to everyone and hopefully will be joining in celebration this time next week with you all! DONT LOSE HOPE

I'm pre-specialty FNP too! Getting really excited but also panicked because I know my chances of admission for so few spots aren't great. Because I'm nosy/stressed/curious, what were your GRE scores like and previous experience/grades? My GRE scores were pretty average as were my undergraduate grades, but have done really well in all prereq classes and have a few years of experience as a veterinary nurse and surgery tech so maybe someone in admissions noticed.

I've also been lurking for a while and just want to wish everyone good luck!!!! This has definitely been a new experience and it will all work out how it's supposed to. I'm also ready to not feel like a complete nutcase every time my phone buzzes for an email!!

Is Vanderbilt definitely done interviewing for direct entry programs?

@wannabepmhnp

I received an invite to interview for February 13th. When I called in they said, admission decisions come in waves. The admissions people said, they have hundreds of emails to send and it is not feasible to get them all out in one day. She also stated, that there would not be a definitive date but they would try to send decisions out the second or third week of February. Also, each specialty sends their decisions to admissions at different times thus we will receive the responses differently.

I am beyond excited to receive the interview. I applied for the ADN to PMHNP, during my last semester of nursing school. I passed boards about two weeks ago. It is still so fresh that I forget to respond "nurse" when people ask what I do. I am so happy with my decision to go back to school and pursue my dreams, and the plan I made 4 years ago is falling in place.

Any tips on interviewing?

Hey! You're the first person I've seen on here that is applying for the ASN-MSN route as well! I'm in my final semester of nursing school right now. I have heard both from the admissions counselors and former students that they never have enough associates degree nursing students apply so theoretically, we have decent chances. I have also heard from a former student that her bridge year was a breeze compared to her associates so that was a relief for me to hear! Are you in Tennessee or another state?

I am in Texas but plan on selling and moving to Clarksville. I have good friends there and want to practice in an underserved area.

Hello from Clarksville/Adams TN! I also want to serve in a MUA. I applied pre specialty PNP. I love this area because it's close enough to Nashville, but also near the military post making housing super affordable. If you end up coming this way, let me know how I can help you transition.

How cool! I'm in California and was planning on moving to Clarksville because my fiancé was stationed there but we are going to be going to North Carolina instead now. Did you apply as Middle Tennessee Area then? They told me that if I was moving to Clarksville I had better chances of admission if I still applied OMTA and was willing to drive further for clinical, so thats the bitter sweet part of being closer to Vanderbilt's campus. I still wish I was moving there as well, NC was a recent and sudden change. I'll just have to be flying in frequently instead!

I applied Middle TN but would be willing to be OTMA if it were offered. I have equity in my house and the cost of living in TN is so much lower with the TN property tax rate. Housing is booming here so it is a great time to sell.

I feel really, really dumb for asking this but what does OTMA mean?
