Vanderbilt MSN 2018

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

They found out on the 14 last year, I believe.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't quite get a clear answer, in regards to clinicals do we have to find our own for the prespecialty and msn portions? Or does vandy help/place us? I can't really fathom how we find our own if that's the case

Specializes in Midwife, OBGYN.

The short answer is if you are pre-specialty which means that you have to be physically on campus your first year in Nashville, then Vandy will find clinical placements for you (you are considered MTA). In your MSN year(s), Vandy will also help you find clinicals if you continue to remain in Nashville with the exception of your last semester which they call integration where you will be sent away for the semester to work in another part of the country. Again, they will have the database to help you with finding a place since they do have existing relationships. If you plan on going to a part of the country where they have no existing relationships for your integration then you will have to find a clinical site on your own with support from the university.

If you are a distance learner (I believe they call them OTA) that is doing the modified block who comes to campus sporadically every month or two, then you will normally have to find your own clinical site in the area where you are living. Vandy does have a database of resources with alumni and other resources that could provide potential leads but finding and securing clinicals is still your responsibility if you are doing distance learning. You will work with the Office of Clinical Placements to negotiate a contract and get it signed and filed with the office.

It also varies by specialty, for my specialty Midwifery, we are required to stay in Nashville for our entire training with the exception of integration. For other specialties like FNP etc, you are allowed to transition to distance learning once you finish your pre-specialty year and you are in your MSN year which means what I said above about finding your own clinical placements will apply with help from Vandy.

That was how it was explained to me during my interview, other students please chime in if anything needs to be corrected.

Bahahahha!

I think we're going to hear on the 14th as well

The days can't pass by quickly enough! The wait's torture. Really going to focus on self-care this next week (i.e. fuel my online shopping addiction)

I got new leggings! lol

I got new leggings! lol

Lol mine came in yesterday :D

Someone should call to ask if its possible we could hear any earlier than the 14th!

I went to the Open House last fall and they said that last year the email notifying people of their "status change" was sent to the people who were accepted on Feb 14 and then it was sent to the people who weren't accepted on Feb 15 because they didn't want to ruin anyone's Valentine's Day. And obviously once you get the email you can log in to the application portal and look at the status change there.

I can already picture the 14th, looking on here seeing that people are getting emails and freaking out because I know that if I don't receive one, I got rejected haha

Thank you for the info!

Hey guys! Thanks for suffering through the wait with me! Can anyone call to confirm that there are two decision release dates: the 14th and the 15th? i called last week and was told by the end of next week I will know! I'm so anxious/nervous!

I don't know about y'all, but I'm officially going crazy waiting for these decisions to go out.
