Hi! I'm starting a thread for Vanderbilt MSN Fall 2018. Anyone else applying too? Please comment!

Are you in the program currently?

@ HopefullyNP, if you're worried, I would own your scores and perfect the other parts of the application. In terms of what your scope of practice would be, perhaps tailor it to what that would mean for your specific goals.

Hi everyone! I am considering applying for the PreSpecialty MSN program at Vanderbilt. However, I noticed on the Vanderbilt website that the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care specialty is not available for those who undergo the PreSpecialty track, which is ultimately what I would like to pursue. Is anyone aware of any way around this? Such as completing the PreSpecialty year, then taking a year to gain experience as an RN, and returning to the program? I am assuming that is not an option considering I could not find anything about it online, but I was wondering if any of you had any insight? I figured I might as well ask :)

You could always complete the program to become a NP and go back for a certificate. However, you must first have 2 years experience as an RN in the hospital or 1 year experience as an RN in the PICU. That's how it was explained to me at the open house.

I called after taking my GRE to ask the average for their program, and the woman told me that the average GRE score they accept is actually 152/153 verbal and 146 quant, which is slightly lower than I expected! It made me feel much more comfortable with my scores :) I guess when they say they want the 50th percentile, they are referring to their program and not overall GRE test takers, which means less quant competition with all the engineering and math students!

@KMD51 - Thanks! I know high GRE scores aren't everything, especially if I can submit a really strong application. Fingers crossed everyone.

@jpolzien0 That's great news!! Not going to lie, I'm right at the levels that they gave you so hopefully I'll be alright. Definitely makes me feel a little more at ease.

What has the program been like so far? Are you in the Middle, TN area? How are the classes compared to your BSN? Have you started clinical yet? Do you find you are obtaining a wide breadth of experience?

I am applying for the pmhnp program and hoping to relocate to Clarksville.

No it's not :( I thought schools aren't allowed to ask where else you're applying. Seems weird.

Hi @survey2nurse,

The priority application deadline is Nov 1st and then the applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis thereafter. Interviews happen in Dec and Jan with admit notices coming out around the second week of February based on what I have read on the previous year's thread.
