Starting Salary for Sentara is $19 for a graduate nurse.

At the other facilities I am sure not exactly this much.

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.

Don't forget to look at the differentials for evenings, nights, weekends, precepting, being the charge nurse, etc. There can be a big difference in these things between hospitals that add significantly to your paycheck.

Also, check to see about any retention bonuses, ICU bonuses, etc. These things are also added to the base rate and can be significant.

Looking at the base salary alone only gives you a piece of the compensation picture.

Are you still working in the ED? How do you like it? What is your avg nurse/pt ratio? Do you have a good staff there? Most everybody happy? I ask b/c I am possibly moving to VA beach area and have 8 yrs ED experience. Thanks for any response!

I started at 21.00 an hour at a Sentara hospital. I am a new grad working in the ER.

Are you still there, rlgiv? Do you like it? What is the nurse/pt ratio? How is the staffing? I may be moving to the VA beach area this summer and I am trying to decide where I would fit best. Thanks for any input!
