From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
I am struggling on the Dimensions of nursing worksheet. I am emailing the recruiter to see if she can help me. I thought a MSN as NP with 9 years experience get me nurse III but it does not look like it from the criteria. From what I understand there are not steps or levels (whatever they call them) for nurse II and higher. Is that true?

My recruiter was able to provide me with an example of a Dimensions that was used several years back. That helped me quite a bit.
If you are being hired as an ARPN, I would think that would be an entire difference scale. If not, I cannot imagine you being boarded as anything less than Nurse III.
From what I understand, only Nurse I carries the different levels. However, all classifications of nurses have steps built in.
Lubbock NP,
I am an NP and I started at the VA a few months ago. I did not have to do the dimensions of nursing and was told that APRNs didn't do them. I was boarded as a RN3, although at a lower level and step than I was hoping. And, yes, there were steps/levels. I have been an NP for 8 years. They, at least at this VA, don't care about previous RN experience for boarding.I can't imagine that you wouldn't get an RN3.
tuscanydreams, they sent me questions about the 9 dimensions of nursing that I have to answer and this will be presented to the nursing board. I will reply back when I find out what level that have me at etc. Thank you so much for your reply!
I will be doing HBPC with geri population. What are you doing there?
Hi all, I applied in Jan 2014, and completed physical, fingerprinting, equip, vetpro. I inquired into my status and received a reply I am just waiting on Director to approve/sign your board action so we can set up a start date. I will let you know as soon as I receive back.. What does this mean, have I successfully "passed" everything to date? Am I close to a start date/final offer?
Congratulations Groettger, it sounds like you are on your way to joining the VA healthcare team. From my understanding, the completion of vetpro, equip, fingerprint and physical indicate that you have successfully (strongly suggested, anyway) completed the hiring process for the Veterans Hospital. Within a few weeks, the Professional Standards Board or by some name or another, will review all of your information, and decide (via your qualifications) on a beginning salary/start date/etc. Because it is still technically "tentative", I won't tell you that you are in the clear, but all signs point to you being very close to the coveted FO.

Congratulations! Did they say when you can expect to see the written offer?
