VA and getting Hired . .. . . . ..

how quickly does the va hire their nurses? I am an LPN and seriously thinking about applying there.

Just wonderng how LONG it will take. up to a year? If anyone could give me a ballpark figure, I would appreicate it!

thanks,

That answer could depend on any # of scenarios. Does the VA in question have any openings? Are they accepting applications? Do they have any Permanent or Contracting Freezes? Have you ever been through the credentialing process? It seems as though every VA has a different situation. It could take as little as 2-weeks and as long as a 1-year.

I just applied to a position via an agency and after a phone interview with a manager from the VA they had me do what they call Vet Pro. An an online reference check thing--basically all your resume and reference info. They day it takes like 1 to 3 weeks usually to run and once they clear that then things can move forward. If there is a position and you get cleared through vetpro after an interview then it is faster from there. I could never get into the outpatient VA here needing day shift hours and found an in through an agency. Something you might try. They do hire many of the agency nurses I guess.

on average 4-6 months and that's when they have an opening that you are applying for...

When they do hire they ALWAYS look at VetPro'd People first.. How do you get VetPro'd? Work a travel contract or through an agency first.. That is the only way as they do not VetPro people for the fun of it. The nice thing is they will honor a license from any state. You just gotta know which company to trust!
