V/S in health room

Published

quick question, as I may have made an error in judgement....... when are vital signs (not just temp) taken in your health room? everytime? never? somewhere in between????/ thanks for help :)

Specializes in School Nursing.

I take full vitals for headaches that do not ease with rest, dizziness, stomachache that does not improve with rest, "chest pain" (which with the little ones I have is usually asthma or chest cold related), or anytime a kiddo just has that "sick" look...I don't know how else to describe it. Usually they are very quiet, maybe pale, and when they walk into my room I get that "uh-oh" feeling in my gut.

We all make errors in judgment. Hopefully no one is any worse for the wear and you will learn from it, if indeed you did make an error. Sometimes you do everything by the book and still miss something (MDs do this too!), so try not to be too hard on yourself. Hope everything turns out ok!

Any dizziness, chest pain, vertigo, shortness of breath, or any child that gives me that 'uh-oh, this might be serious' feeling.

thanks for help. all turned out well, altho i def should have done some things differently. lesson learned!
