Hello everyone!
I created this thread for everyone to see how many people are applying and how is everyone doing. A little bit about me is that I am currently at a community college, therefore applying as a transfer. I am honestly nervous about my essay because the prompts were difficult. That is all I have to say and good luck to everyone who is applying!

I got really discouraged about UW because I didn't think I'd make it into the transfer school due to possibly not meeting the general requirements for the school because I didn't have any language at the time I applied. I started Spanish Winter quarter. Yesterday I was notified that I indeed qualify so I'm back to being hopeful for decisions tomorrow. @TheOrenNurse I'm really rooting for you to get accepted into a nursing school, UW at best!
Wow, that seems really harsh. Can't believe they'd suggest another career.

Hi ohaimegan! I saw a comment you left on the UW forum and it made me think you and I have somewhat similar circumstances! I webt back to school 10 years ago and failed a whole quarter (had a baby and tried to go to school at the same tike) and then had a rough time getting through a business degree. So I have a history of poor grade. I went back to school to pursue nursing and have great grades now that I know what I want to do with my life.
I applied to SU and was denied. I reached out to a counselor and expressed my concerns about my poor grades from years ago and repeat classes. He told me I was denied due to the poor grade history and repeats and that they would consider it every year so it was unlikely that I would get in.
I’ve been so nervous about getting into a BSN program with my past but I can’t do anything about it! I saw that you got into SU which gave me a little hope but perhaps my situation is a little worse.
really hoping I can get into PLU!
I screwed up my nursing prerequisites 10-11 years ago. I started at north Seattle college with the intent on going into nursing. Had a new baby and a job. I failed ap2, repeated it, didn’t score high enough in micro, or my second time taking ap2 either. Decided to give up and just get my associates which I did, not without some more poor grades and Ws on my transcript. I was able to get into UW for an online bachelors degree program and I did OK there. Finished that in 2017. Then recently I retook the nursing pre-reqs I needed (the science ones mostly) and aced them.
I got into UWs ABSN program. So I’d say there’s hope for anyone who struggled in the past. I really struggled and wrote about that in the additional information section of my essay basically saying “yeah I failed classes before, here’s why”. “Here’s why I don’t suck now and here’s proof”. UW seems to be pretty forgiving. I didn’t even look at applying at st Martin’s because they said something about the amount of repeats you could have and I took ap1 2x, micro 2x, ap2 3x, I think I even repeated psych 200 but got a decent grade the second time way back then. I retook stats but didn’t need to for UW, I would have needed to for other schools that had an expiration thing for some of the classes. I didn’t apply anywhere else before getting into UW so not sure what other schools would have said to me.

Hi Sarah! Your situation sounds exactly like mine. I started college at 18 but then my dad had a major stroke. He kept having mini strokes after that and they always affected his personality. He had to keep relearning everything all over again and it was just a really hard time in my life. I straight up failed two semesters and then stopped going to school.
I reached out to the Saint Martins advisor and she said that because of my last grades (not even in the pre-reqs that I needed), I wouldn’t ever be admitted because nursing is so competitive.
it was super discouraging to hear that after working so hard. However, I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere. I was in an occupational therapy program before this and my cohort actually taught the LPN students some things. I think that’s what helped me get into SU. Just don’t give up.
@Justyb90, I’m really glad to hear that!! It gives me hope. Honestly I just think Saint Martins is hard to get into if you’re not perfect. They said I was competing against applicants who had 4.0 cumulative GPA’s and they only had 16 spots this year.
Hey Everyone,
I'm here to add onto this poor grade discussion. I failed a quarter in 2019. I got a 2.0 and a 0.0 (I missed the withdraw date) and this was due to personal events on top of a 52 hour work week. After this happed, I retook the classes (got a 4.0 & 3.7), increased my academic rigor, and have maintained 3.8 GPA EVERY single quarter. I got accepted into SU. In UW seminar, they mentioned a failed / poor grade with a repeat is OK as long as you prove in your transcripts that it was just a bad quarter and that you can overcome your challenges with an upward trend. Don't lose hope!
*Edit: In your application, you can explain any poor grades in a designated section. I did for each school.*
