UVA Health System New Grad Summer 2016

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi! I'm a nursing student expecting to graduate in May 2016 and I just applied to the UVA New Grad Summer 2016 Program. Prior to applying I noticed there had been previous threads for this program where applicants were able share their experiences, meet each other a little, and get excited for the future - So, even though its early in the timeline, I thought I would go ahead a start some discussion.

I've already spoken to some nurses who work at UVA and heard its a really good working and learning environment. If anyone who works there sees this, I would also love to hear more about your experience!

Received an interview on 6 East. Was made an offer and accepted two weeks later. Super excited to move to Charlottesville and start at UVA.

Hello everyone,

Are there any nurses that currently works in the ICUs at UVA? What's the unit and teamwork like? Also, for those moving to Charlottesville, what are you doing in regards to housing? The rent in that city seems high to me!

Hey there! I'm moving down there in July for my August start date. I have signed a lease for a one bedroom apartment in Stoen Field Commons. I chose to do this because I have not had the best luck as far as roommates through college. I am moving from the DC area, where I turned down another position, due to the cost of living there as well as the traffic. I think I'm Charlottesville, in comparison to DC, you really get your money's worth. I am going to be paying slightly more per month because I have a dog, but my apartment as well as the complex is super nice and has great amenities. If you're looking for cheaper places, those options are there, as I did tour places that seems cheap to me. Let me know if you have any questions about certain places! I toured about five different complexes.

That's so exciting! I'm moving from Manassas, VA at the end of July. Super excited to start! I loved the unit when I was there.

I work in the cardiac surgery ICU. We have great teamwork, and we have to because our patients are soooo sick. We have lots of emergent procedures like open chest washouts and stuff. Our manager is GREAT. I really love my job. Honestly, 99.9% of all the people at UVa are RIDICULOUSLY nice. Like you will think 'nah-these people must be faking. They can't be this nice.' But they are!!!!

Do you remember when you submitted your application?
