UTMB Spring 2018

Hello everyone! I plan on applying to UTMB for Spring 2018 entry and can't find a post on it, so I decided to make one! I am taking my TEAS end of April. I already have a degree from the University of Houston in Health Communication and minor in Nutrition. I am finishing my last two prerequisites (A&P2, Microbiology) right now at a community college. Anyone else looking to apply? Deadline is coming up next month, so I thought it would be awesome to get a group thread going! Would love to hear from others applying!

Yep, got my notification today to go for fingerprints as well. Slots are filling up fast!

I just noticed but the email was sent at 8 am I wonder whether there were times for today. Mine set for tommmorow at 430

I did not see today as an option, or I would have chosen today! My appt is in Pearland at 4:10 tomorrow. Getting it done!

I'm very happy that some of the things we have to do are coming in early. It makes it easier that way because of how packed my November schedule is!

What time did you see the email? I'm saying maybe if you saw the email early enough there was probably spots open for today near the evening but it doesn't matter now

I saw the email around lunch time, but didn't try to schedule an appointment until mid afternoon. You are right thought, doesn't matter now! :)

Students that are on the waitlist most likely are getting fingerprints done in case any student doesn't pass their background check or something occurs to them to not continue

Have anyone taken their TEAS more than two times and got accepted?

Also, what sudy guide did you use? English has been my lowest subject :(

I took the test once, so I can't help you out with that.

I used the ATI study guide. It is concise and thorough. I treated studying for the TEAS like another class, working on it some each week in the months leading up to taking the test. I also paid additional for the practice tests, which I recommend because it is the same format as the TEAS and tests your knowledge with the same type of questions. The practice tests tell you what sections you need to focus on based on what questions you missed.

Yeah I did bought practice test and study like three books. Other subjects I did great on, but English runied it :(

I will probably need to buy a seperate grammer book. Thank you for the feedback and suggestion :)

UPDATE: On Oct. 17th, I received my acceptance letter to UTMB. Although it's a great honor to finally get admitted, I have decided to attend the University of Miami instead and will be sending them my decline notification shortly. Great news for those who are waiting for more spots to open -- I wish you all the best of luck in your nursing studies. And if you attend that Destination Galveston event sent by Jennifer Spruce, have fun and enjoy yourselves! Now I just have to figure out how to opt-out of all those emails... lol

Hi all, just an update since a lot has happened since my original post on Aug. 23.

I did my interview on Sep. 28, but noticed that the subject line said "Spring 2018 Waitlist Invitation for Interview". This was interesting since I was never notified of being on the waitlist, so I assumed that after so much time, I would probably get denied but just haven't been notified yet. After my in-person interview, my interviewer said I should be receiving an answer in about 4-6 weeks, so I'm giving until the end of October. I think it went extremely well and was told "if it was up to him, he'd say 'Welcome Aboard'." So I left feeling confident, but I also know that the decision will need to be a collective one by the Admissions Committee after they receive the interview evaluation. I'm sharing this to let those who are still waiting that there could still be hope, so don't give up.

I would also like to share that I've already been admitted to the Accelerated nursing programs with the University of Miami, Baylor University, and Texas Woman's University (TWU). All great schools, including UTMB, but I think if UTMB accepts me -- my top two contenders will be them and the University of Miami. Both are strong candidates with high NCLEX pass rates and highly competitive between 38-43% acceptance rates. But since I am also considering a Master's nursing program after hopefully completing my BSN successfully, I did notice the 2017/18 U.S. News Report rankings for "Best Nursing Schools: Master's" -- University of Miami (#38); Baylor University (#56); UTMB (#73); TWU (#88)...

UT HSC Houston (#23), but I already received a denial from them, so that's just an FYI for you guys.

It will be a tough call for me between UM and UTMB, assuming I get accepted to UTMB. One of the biggest factors will be the pricetag with UTMB being so much more affordable. But Miami is... Miami!

Whatever happens, I'll keep you guys posted for whoever might be interested -- especially for those waiting on spots to open up.
