Hey guys Im making this thread so all of the applicants for UTMB Spring 2010 can follow each other through the process and help each other out! The application deadline is coming up soon! Goodluck to all!:nuke: I know they are only exepting 60 for the spring.
Ms Jazzy I am sorry to report that I made it out with a C! I made an 81 on the Final, but the teacher said that wasn't enough to maintain my B like I thought.
So I got a C on my transcript now and the crazy thing is??? I'm still happy as HECK to be done with that class...It was sooo hard for me.
wannabetxnurse: Since you used intheloop, are you planning on living up there during the program? You said the traffic was awful, so I was just wondering!
VRA21: Where did you end up deciding to live? Did you find a place yesterday? I am going down on Tuesday and I'm in the same position as you (moving from out of town and have no sense of direction). Wondering what you decided to do.
I have heard several points of view on the situation. Either they tell me to live on the island because I'll be close to campus/other facilities, live halfway in between med center and the island, or live in the med center because most of the time during the program, I will spend more time doing clinical than I will on campus.
A mutual friend of mine finished the Bacc2 program this past April (it used to start in April). She has been able to give me a lot of insight into the program. I figured we (everyone in the bacc2 program) would be on the same page, so we could get togther and work on things together. But she told me that she and her roommate would sometimes do homework together, but everyone is on different schedules than others. You may have clinical at different times than your classmates, or have study times different. She also lived on the island and said if she had to do it over again, she would live off, like Clear Lake. She was also in the program during Ike and had LOTS of her clinical in the med center. But she has told me that she was unsure if they were still sending as many students out there since it has been a while since the hurricane. But I have heard, on here and other places, that if you live on the island you WILL have clinical on the island, they are reserved. The prof I interviewed with told me the staff was going to be very accomodating to students in terms of assigning clinical based on where the students live. She said that after they have the final roster of students (I'm assuming at orientation), they will collect addresses and assign based off of that info.
I'm so ridiculously over going on and on and on in my mind where I am going to live, based on all the information I've gotten. It's all so different and confusing. My mom told me: bite the bullet and pick somewhere to live already!! Its only a year!...So ultimately I just have to make a decision. There are obviously pros and cons to every option.
I was just wondering for those of us who have gotten in, what kind of experience you have had in the medical field if any. I am currently on the wait list and i am trying to figure out a back up plan in case I dont get in. THANKS
Hi Kliz18,
I don't have any clinical experience, but I have lots of research experience in the life sciences field.
Oh, I'm not going to UTMB. I live in Houston and love it, and my boyfriend's job is here, so I'm hoping to attend UT Houston in the fall. I just thought that the apartment locator might be able to help anyone moving to the medical center area.
I've been down to Galveston, and I can tell you that most of the hotels and stuff are back to normal but there are still sections that haven't recovered from Ike. I'm not sure if it's still on the website or not, but UTMB had a bunch of pictures of how underwater they were. If you visit the island, check out the seawall. I was watching TV the day Ike hit and parts of the island were flooding at noon. The ocean was above parts of the seawall more than 12 hours before the storm hit.
Hi all Bacc2s,
Just a heads up: I received my orientation and spring schedule in the mail yesterday, so expect yours soon. They said they've been having "technical difficulties" so the paperwork was mailed instead of e-mailed. It looks like we are going to be in Galveston more than 1x a week this semester which is a bummer for me. The schedule has us in Galveston Tuesday/Thursday/Friday. It looks like actual clinicals start in March, but we have skills labs up until that point.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
All the best,
Deb :)
Hi everyone!! Just found this thread, and I have also been accepted into Generic Spring 2010!! I actually wanted to ask if anyone has received information about Financial Aid. When I went up to the school a couple of weeks ago, the person I talked to said they didn't have all the new students in the system yet. That they would be doing that over the next couple of weeks, and we would receive an email to the financial aid portal. I'm honestly stressing out because everything in this whole process has been a last minute, and I am a poor college student, lol. So, I am stressing out about the money for books, supplies, software, ect. If anyone has any different info, let me know! And congrats to everyone that got in!!
Deb,Is that Tuesday/Thursday/Friday schedule for the entire first semester? Where will you be making the commute from?:loveya:
Taylor
Pretty much. It will change a little bit when we start clinicals. It looks like we need 7-12hr shifts of clinicals total for the semester. The calendar has clinicals Mon 3/29 then Wed/Thurs/Fri the last week of March until April 16th for a total of 10 shifts, so I'm wondering if we will only be scheduled for 7 of the 10. I guess we'll find out, soon enough.
I'm commuting from Friendswood, so it stinks a little bit. I've commuted to Galveston before, and it's not as bad as trying to go to West Houston.
Take care,
Deb:)
