UTMB Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

The application process has just gotten under way for UTMB spring admission. Has anyone taken the TEAS tests? Any helpful hints on getting a high score?

@JayC. Hey Jay! I am glad to hear that you did well on your TEAS V. Im retaking the TEAS V on the 27th because the first time I did not study as much as I should have. So if you can please share what you think I can do to improve my TEAS V that would be extremely helpful!

Sure no problem!

What helped me a lot was reviewing the ATI study guide and also the 5 teas practice test by McGraw-Hill ($27). The ATI study guide is costly so if you don't already have it and worried about spending 90+ for it, the McGraw hill is just as good. Also like what Hallie.y said, it also helped taking your sciences already as it makes reviewing the science section a lot easier.

To be honest, I only studied for about 2 weeks because I'm also doing 3 courses this summer and been so busy doing exams in between studying for TEAS and HESI. I spent the first 2 days doing 2 practice tests each day and reviewing the concepts I got wrong immediately after. I used the explanations from the back of the book and also through textbooks I kept from A&P, Chem, & Micro. Then for the next few days, I tried to redo those same tests and redo the ones I got wrong. Although I already seen the answer from the first attempt, I tried to understand why it was the correct answer, rather than simply cheating myself. Then I rinsed and repeat for the next 3 practice exams.

Hopes this helps!

@Vietman

My Teas V score was 87.3%

Reading: 88.1% (Can't really help you there, I generally do decent in comprehension. All I can say is practice from the McGraw hill and ATI because it gives good rationale for correct answers)

Math: 96.7% (Math was pretty much the same as the practice tests)

Science: 83.3% (science was all over the place, for me mostly general biology/chem like asking what is the equation of photosynthesis and asking you to balance it in 1 question. Only got 1 easy question about physics regarding momentum)

Grammar: 80% (http://www.grammar-monster.com/ is quite good and helped me out quite a bit since I really suck at grammar and skipped English class a lot in high school =D)

Lastly, An obvious good tip is to make sure to you use the restroom before doing the teas if you plan on drinking coffee before the test! I was dumb enough not to, and it was affecting me by the time I got to the science part =/.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but for my examination I didn't get to choose which section I do first. I had to do reading, math, science, and grammar in that order with breaks in between if you choose to take one.

It took about a week for me to get my my star login info in my email after submitting the supplemental package.

@Marthavick - I don't remember hearing about early acceptance when I went to an info session a while back. What is it?

Someone asked about early acceptance at the information session I attended. I looked in the packet they gave me and I did take down greater than 80 on the TEAS and GPA higher than 3.75. I don't really know what to think about it though, because I have stalked the earlier application cycles forums and some people with those stats found out they were accepted along with many other people or some of them did not even get in? I guess as long as your accepted it really doesn't matter when you find out! But it would ease the worrying and nervousness if it was at all possible to find out sooner.

@JayC. Thanks so much Jay!!! You did REALLY REALLY good! Let us know when you get your good news and any new updates!!

Best Regards,

Lisa

No problem Lisa, and thanks for the accolade =). Now I got to worry about the Hesi i'm taking soon because a lot of people are getting over 90 for UTHSC. I'll update any news I receive and let you guys know along the way.

Good luck next week and update us with the anticipated good results!

Cheers!

Hi, I am wondering if test scores are sent automatically from ATI to UTMB after you take the TEAS or would you have to purchase a transcript of your results from the ATI website and have them send that to UTMB?

Also, I am not able to find UTMB under available institutions when I tried to send the transcript of my testing results on the ATI website.

Hey, you are allowed to select one school for free at the time of registration for TEAS!

Oh so they are already automatically sent? Thank you! :)

Thanks marthavick!

Hey! Sorry, I haven't been on here in a long time. I actually just took my TEAS today, and I need to finish my personal essay, and I'll submit tomorrow.
