UTMB FALL 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

The UTMB Fall 2019 application opens soon on November 15! Have you started on your essay or the TEAS preparation yet? I am so excited and nervous at the same time and have been stalking past threads on AllNurses.

Currently taking AP I and Microbiology and will be taking AP II in the Spring. I hope to take the TEAS by the end of December.

Please feel free to discuss your experience, stats, comments, etc.

Good luck to all of us! :)

Hey y’all! I just emailed UTMB and declined their offer. Another school closer to home offered me acceptance so I’ll be going there instead! Hopefully one of y’all gets pulled off the waitlist soon ?

Thanks for updating us!

Hi guys! Just got pulled off the waitlist and accepted! Good luck to everyone I really didn’t think I would get in!

Alright! I just joined this forum in hopes of finding some answers. I will be graduating with a bachelors degree in biology this year. I was pursuing Pharmacy school for quite a while only to realize that it is a dying field. I have been a pharmacy technician for almost 3 years at Walmart, and for 2 years at a hospital. My CNA course starts on July 6th, and I feel like nursing is the best option for me as I would love to ACTIVELY help patients.

How exactly does the GPA calculation work? I heard UTMB takes the higher grade for courses that are retaken? Will they only look at my nursing pre-requisities when it comes to GPA or my cumulative GPA for all classes that were taken towards my degree?

The pre-reqs for UTMB are on their webpage, use those for your GPA calculations. Use those to guide you and you can enter them into a College GPA calculator online to get your GPA. For your pre-reqs they do take the highest grade just keep in mind some schools don't let you retake a class twice (I'm not sure about UTMB). I retook two science courses and I was fine. It doesn't say directly on the page that they factor cumulative but I'm sure they look at it because they make you apply through NursingCAS and they literally dissect your GPA and it shows your cumulative. The four things I would worry about are Science GPA, Pre-req GPA, Cumulative GPA, and TEAS score. GOOD LUCK!

Has anyone gotten pulled off the waitlist recently?

Ok somehow I ended up on this thread, but figured I'd pass on the torch with an answer. I recently graduated from UTMB nursing and got my license. Although GPA and Teas counts into consideration especially if you don't have any other life experiences like being a paramedic or something, I personally believe the most important thing is your letter and how well you interview. If you can convince them that you really want to be there and are willing to fight through the painful experiences of being in nursing school then Teas & GPA won't matter as much. Can't speak for other programs, but UTMB nursing is very hard and it takes a lot of patience and sheer determination get through. Most of you will be so overwhelmed that you will break out in tears several times at some point, but you will learn to move on and become more resilient. I was accepted with a 3.7 gpa with several W's and a borderline TEAS, but I made it up honestly showing that there was nowhere else that I rather be and no other career that I would rather pursue. I even recited their core values and explained how it applies to me personally. Don't feel down because some mr or mrs perfect 4.0 posted their stats on here to compare. Just try your best, apply, be honest and determined. If you are the perfect 4.0 good job, just make sure this is exactly what you want to do because you're no exception, you will struggle. Good luck on all your journeys ahead.
