Utica University - FNP Online Program

Hi My Fellow Nurses,

My name is Letisha, and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I am seeking an online Family NP Program. I know about Frontier, Downstate and Utica College. Does anyone have any reviews about Utica's online FNP program? I know it's a relatively new program. Any info is very much appreciated!

I actually graduated from chamberlain in FL, I was told the NP program is not available to anyone from NY , however I do have NY,NJ and FL license so not sure if that would matter to them

Well, that’s great if you wanted to do the program in NJ, your already licensed. You need a NJ address and NJ license. The only problem is that you have to do all your clinicals in Jersey and that’s a problem for me because I know no one in Jersey! NY is the only state that is such a pain in the butt with schools. Other states allow you to go online with no problem. Only NY gives such a problem. I graduated from Chamberlain as well, but did my BSN fully online. It was great. I loved that school.

Mehhh by the time I even move to NJ it will be like next summer , and chamberlain is giving me an issue with registering anyway so I’m done with them however maybe I’ll try Pace again or something and just see .. I was excited to get it started .. plus the other ones start in the summer and Utica starts in winter so I felt like I was getting a head start. I do have a good feeling they will obtain accreditation, just don’t know when and if it’s too late by the time we are done.

What about Downstate?

The process is Sooooooooo long.... I feel like pulling all my HAIR out doing these essays and applications ?

That one I haven’t tried yet, funny I was just looking at an email about per diem at downstate but they pay horrible, as for school I’ll have to look into it

Lol! If you think they pay horrible. Don’t look at NYC HHC, they’re worse. I worked at Downstate in 2009 and we made way more than Kings County Nurses cause we were under the states pay rules. City is worse.

Oh I know I refuse to work there, right now I’m at Mount Sinai, but since it’s union the pay isn’t as much as let’s say Sloan and NYP. I would totally go per diem but I need the benefits

I work at home as a case manager. It’s good for school cause I’m home. It’s convenient but it’s getting stressful with the workload etc. I am thinking of giving up the job soon just to dedicate my time to the NP program and finding some 12 hour hospital job or weekend home care

Anyone know of any online based programs in NY?

I started the FNP program at Utica, and I think they will get their accreditation from what I’m hearing.
