Hey everyone! I haven't seen a thread yet for the UTHSCSA Spring 2017 application cycle, so I decided to start one! The deadline is coming up in less than a month! Feel free to comment whatever you would like!
Hey guys, I am a student at UTHSCSA about to start my first semester in two weeks (so excited and nervous). I want to wish everyone luck during this waiting game. For me this part was one of the hardest thing about the whole process. Just fyi, once the acceptance letters go out, it is a good idea for someone to start a facebook page for your cohort. The school encourages this to be done because it is a fast and good way to get info out, clarification on various topics, and just to encourage each other. I am super exciter for y'all and again wish all the best to each of y'all.
It's actually better to get a Patient Care Technician (PCT) job or Nursing Assistant job at one of the area hospitals, then when you start nursing school move to PRN (you'll have to work one shift per month). Then when you're close to completing nursing school and apply for a job you'll be an internal hire. Way easier to secure a job this way.
You should still apply to the Accelerated BSN. You'll have to take the new TEAS VI, but you'll start May 2017 and graduate Aug 2018, instead of Dec 2018. If I had a BS already that's what I would do.
MY STATS
Overall GPA: 3.74
PreReq GPA: 3.81
TEAS V: 91
Male
38 years old
17+ years of Paramedic experience
Veteran (Retired AF)
Recently hired at Baptist MC ED as PCT (Paramedic)
My wife is graduating from the UTHSCSA Accelerated BSN program in 12 days.
I went back and forth with the two programs and figure whatever I get into first I'll just take. Yeah, I would graduate earlier but the summers off would give me a chance to do research, a humanitarian trip, or just relax with my kiddos. Ultimately, my goal is to get into the Psych NP program so either way I go, I'll still be applying for the same term and just didn't want to miss an opportunity to start. What does your wife think about the accelerated program?
I'll be officially retired 1 Nov! :)
Congrats on retiring. The accelerated program was my wife's first choice. She has been busy for the last 15 months, but she wanted to finish as soon as possible so it was worth it. She just landed two ICU (Neurons ICU/Transplant ICU) jobs right out of school, but has chosen the Neuro one at Methodist. She'll start her residency for that position in October.
The acceptance emails go out September 2nd. The only emails that might go out before then are for the applicants that have incomplete packets or are not unqualified upon final review (i.e. Still taking a science class, GPA below school minimum, etc..) they could be notified prior to September 2nd.

Can you review your unofficial transcript online for the school? That's how I inputted mine and nursingcas didn't find any discrepancies with my application.
