UTHSC Summer 2015 Application

Published

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning to apply to UTHSC for the Summer 2015 session. I am hoping to go the Pacesetter route. I currently have a degree in Communications and I'm finally able to change careers and follow my dream. I'm a high-school teacher that will be resigning in June when the school year ends. I have a lot of prereqs already taken, but have a few to go, as well. I'm currently taking Intro to Pscyh online, will take Lifespan in May, and Intro to Soci and and A&P I & II over the summer.

If you are applying to start in this summer session too, please join in the discussion! We'll need to lean on each other as we go through this tough (but wonderful) process!

Anyone else out there?

Good Luck in advance!

Bless you! Thanks for sharing this. I mentally know that I should not stress about this but I must admit that I feel like when I was in middle school and hated waiting to be picked for kickball. Although in kickball, you knew you would be picked eventually. Not so for this!

This is all in God's hands and I think I am getting another lesson in patience and trust. Builds character (I hope)

I know how you feel! It kept bugging me and so I finally broke down and called so my mind is a little at ease since they have a lot more waves, but the waiting is killing me!

For those waiting I hope you do make into the program. If your passionate about nursing I believe you will get in!

I am sort of confused. I see someone write about a BON card. I know about the background check and drug test. I also know about the immunizations. Please where does it state that we have to to finger printing? I am yet to see that.

I'm in the program and I haven't heard of this either. All you need is the drug test, titers, and background check.

Bon is (board of nursing) I did see it on the website for a declaratory ... Basically if ur background check does not come back absolutely clear you can still be admitted but you have to go through them

For those who don't know, Mrs. JoAnn Mendoza is over the summer semester applicants. She is the lady in charge of notifying all the applicants on their status (accept/denied). Please allow me to warn you (just in case you decide to call her) she is extremely rude and cold.....so brace yourself if you decide to go there and give her a call. lol

Anyway, due to this last week being the student's Spring Break Hoilday, I was not sure if the employees in the Admissions and Registrar's office was off on break too. So I called and asked were they still sending acceptance notifications during the Spring Break. They said they couldn't because Mrs. JoAnn is the person assigned to notifying the summer applicants and she is out sick until Monday the 16th. The lady continued to say that even if Mrs. JoAnn was working that week of Spring Break, she (Mrs. JoAnn) would not have been sending out anymore notifications because she is giving the first batch of students, that were already notified, 10 days to pay the $200 fee which holds the students seat in the classroom. After the 10 days expires and the accepted students does or does not pay, then Mrs. JoAnn will send the 2nd batch of acceptance notifications to the students via "myUT" by applying a green check and she will also send the accepted student a congratulation's email that will also have some directions on it. With all that being said, if everything goes as planned and Mrs. JoAnn is well and back in the office on Monday, then the 2nd batch of acceptance notifications will be delivered to the accepted students sometime this coming week. Ps. I was told that UT sends out a total of 3 batches of acceptance notifications and then they start sending out the denied notifications, via "myUT" and email. I was also told by Mrs. JoAnn herself that they were only 4 hundred and something applicants for the summer. However, when you call the school and speak to someone that picks up the phone, they are all saying a number in the 700s but it isn't true. The main lady herself (who is over the summer) is quoting a figure in the 400s. This is good news because this simply means that there is not that much competition. They will only be accepting 120-125 students every semester.

For those that are waiting on good news: Say a prayer, have FAITH and everything else WILL fall into place. I don't mean to sound cornie but being and acting in "faith" always worked out for me. My advice to all that are waiting on good news, is to ACT and FEEL as if you ALREADY been accepted. This is the meaning of having and being in "faith". I, myself, did these things as I was waiting for my acceptance news to be revealed to me and as you already know, everything worked out in my favor. You can start this process by doing some of the things I did as I waited on the news. The first thing is to have $205 ready on your credit/ debit card to pay for your seat in the classroom. ($200 for holding your spot and $5 processing fee) If you prayed and believe that you have been heard, then it will show in your actions by you preparing to become a student. Having this money ready for you to spend on the first day you get notified is acting in faith. The $205 goes towards your tuition. This amount confirms to the school that you are accepting their offer of welcoming you to be apart of their nursing program. The next thing you can do is start completing all the things that will be on your "To Do List" when Mrs. Joann does notify you of the good news. Here is a link to get started

https://nursing.uth.edu/currstudent/new/ Another thing to do is your taxes. If you worked at all this last year (2014) and haven't done your taxes, get that done asap!!! After you are done doing your taxes, there will be information on your completed tax form that is needed, in order to fill out and complete your fafsa form when applying for financial aid and loans. If you didn't work at all this last year (2014), then you don't have to get your taxes done. This means you can start applying for financial aid and loans by filling out the fafsa form immediately. While you're filling out the fafsa form, don't forget to add University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center as one of the schools you are giving permission to access your financial aid info. I believe you can add 5-10 schools on that page of the fafsa form. If you need help filling out the fafsa form, the financial aid department of the school you attended ,when you were working on your prerequisite, should be able to help you with this. I'm saying this because I went to the financial aid department of the school I attended (HCC) and a lady was happy to help me. If you decide to go to them for help on filling out the fafsa form, don't forget to bring your completed tax papers if you worked in 2014.

Another important thing to start on asap is your vaccinations because some shots have to be given twice and 30 days apart from one another. Also, you must take a CPR class and get a certificate when your done. This is a piece of cake, but all the institutions that are giving this class may be filled as we get closer to May. So get this done and overwith, while everyone else is procrastinating. It only takes about 3 hours and cost $60 and your done. All the above information is very critical to complete wayyyyyyy before the first day of class or your status will be changed to denied or hopefully be pushed to you starting in the following semester. In other words, UT will not let you attend school with the other students if your "to do list" is not complete by the first day of class. My suggestion is to work on it now because it takes days for the people at UT to get to the last person that submitted information from their "to do list". UT's staff works in the order of "first come, first serve". So if you decide to start doing and sending your "to do list" information, 2 weeks before school starts and the school finally gets to your file on the first day of class....you will now be denied for the summer and they may let you start the next semester or they might make you reapply and start all over again for the following semester. It's best not to procrastinate and be ready to submit everything many weeks ahead of time and all in one day.

After all of these things are done, I suggests you buy 2-3 navy blue scrubs and a pair of white tennis, a wrist watch with a "second" hand, stethoscope and patches (with the UT name on it) for the shirt of your scrubs. You can get more details on those specific items on the UT website, ut summer facebook page (feel free to write a question) or just call the school. Sorry for the long comment and I hope it all helped.

Congrats to all that already have been accepted and stay positive and full of excitement to everyone else as yall wait for the news. Night night.

Thank you for sharing the info. It was very informative and helpful. :)

Anyone having problems viewing their Admission Status??

Looks like they changed the layout. You just have to click on favorites and click check admission status.

Be careful with posting names of faculty on here, actually anyone's name. This is a public site and can be seen by anyone.

I pray we hear something today:)
