Hi,
I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.
Thanks for your comments
I was wondering if someone could offer advice. So I recently applied to UTHSCH and I am debating whether or not I should schedule an appointment to take my HESI next month. This will leave me roughly 3 1/2 weeks to study for the HESI. PLUS, I will still have medical micro, engl 2, gov't 1, phil, history 2 and gov't 2 to complete in the fall. With so many classes left, I'm thinking it might be smarter to focus on the fall semester for now and worry about taking the HESI sometime in January before the FEB deadline. So I would start studying for the HESI in early December to mid January which gives me more time than 3 weeks. IDK!....
My current stats are:
pre req's: 3.7
science: 3.33
overall: 3.0
This fall I will be taking: medical micro, engl 2, gov't 1, phil, and history 2. Then I will take a minimester for gov't 2.
ADVICE.....?
I would say only take the required sections because that is all they tell you to take. Wouldn't want to take the other sections and it total into your overall Hesi score and the school have to total it out themselves. Also, like you said dont waste anytime on sections not needed, use your time for sections required and pace yourself.
@desjt3, what do you think??
If you are applying to the Spring 2013 UTHSC program you will need to take your HESI before Sept 1 since that is the app deadline for Spring. So I would say do that asap. I just registered to take mine August 10th.
However, if you want to wait to start next year in the Fall I think that is when you will apply in Feb to TWU and of course can take your HESI at a later date. (But if you have all those classes to take it wont leave you much room to study for the HESI).
Right, I can't decide if I should go ahead and take 16 credits next semester, leaving me 3 weeks to studying for the HESI before Sept. 1st (I would schedule 3rd week of August) or if I should split the load into two semesters so I can study for the HESI and take in January. You know what I mean? How long have you been studying for your HESI?
I looked up books on amazon, and added two to my cart. Ill probably be buying these tonight and reviewing for the next few weeks. I have taken the HESI before and I didn't study one bit and I hadn't taken AP II. I got an 88 in A&P, 90 on my math, and I can't remember the rest but my overall was an 87%. I got an 830 on critical thinking but I think they want 850+, if not 900.
3 weeks is a good amount of time I think. As long as you study each day. You can't psyche yourself out about it you have to go in there calm and with the mindset to evaluate and get every answer correct to the best of your knowledge. I rushed through the grammar parts, didn't take my time at all but I should have. Maybe my overall would have been higher.
If you split the 16hours up wont that set you back until next application period? I took 14hrs last semester and 16hrs this past fall semester and made all A's both times (so it can be done). I even took my Hesi test at the end of my 16hr semester and without studying a page or having APII I think I did a pretty awesome job.
This go round I will study up until 8/10 and PRAYERFULLY get better results. My pre-req GPA is 3.7, my science is 4.0, and my overall (all classes is 3.57).
What about you?
