UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

stacymonique- I applied on January 2. Like you, I've come to realize that the acceptances are not based on GPAs and/or HESI scores. There is a criteria that UTHSC is using that is not known to the applicants. Don't know if it's: when you applied, your learning style, your personality assessment or some other random measurement. It's clearly not based on the stats!

I too am sitting here depressed with just a green circle and no holds. Is there anyone out there with hope left? I am already thinking of reapplying next semester. For those of you like me, what other schools are you applying to? I only applied to UT this semester, but will be applying to TWU and UTMB in the Fall.

i'm feeling the same as you right now. i currently have just a green circle and no holds. i hope things are just going slow and ours will change later in the week. my stats are pretty good so i'm kind shocked.

I am bummed too. I also only applied to UTHSCH this semester, but I will include UTMB in my next round of applications. I didn't go for it initially since I can't relocate and I didn't want to commute 2 hours everyday, but I hear that it is all online until you start your clinicals so it wouldn't be so bad. Plus, they still have interviews so you get a chance to plead your case or make an influence :-)

These are my hesitations with UTMB as well, but you are right. It cannot be that bad, and the interview is definitely a plus. Are you applying to TWU?

i'm feeling the same as you right now. i currently have just a green circle and no holds. i hope things are just going slow and ours will change later in the week. my stats are pretty good so i'm kind shocked.

I wish I could be more positive and have hope. I'll just apply early next semester and hope it helps me in some way.

I have worked VERY hard to get where I am right now. I wished every applicant the best of luck on getting in, and it makes me sad to think that there are some who feel that not all of us accepted into UTHSC are worthy of that green check. Although my admittance is being begrudged and found lacking, I wish y'all the best of luck in your future endeavors at getting into nursing school..

God Bless & Good Luck

I still have no change in my status at all! Just that same yellow triangle and no holds!!! Dang it, I'm just hoping it changes to something else at this point. Clearly, they are still updating applications. I'm sure we could expect a couple days to process so many apps so there might still be some hope for you guys that are so bummed!

For any guests out there that haven't posted if you got accepted this afternoon: please let us know, at least we could get idea if they are still accepting people or if it's just the denials and wait-listed individuals left in limbo! Thanks!

Hey everyone.

I also applied to UTHSC and have not received any status updates or hold changes. My stats are very competitive and I only applied to one school because I honestly thought it wouldn't be this much of an emotional rollercoaster.

The only reason I joined this thread was to put in my two cents, if you will. EVERYONE worked hard. I have a 3.87 gpa with a 94.6 Hesi, that I have maintained as a full time student while working fifty hours a week on my feet, and it doesn't look like I was accepted. I don't necessarily believe they only accept the first 100 or so applicants that look good, but I do think there is a lot more they look at than simply those two numbers.

Furthermore, accusing those that are merely upset and venting about their stresses of calling those that have been accepted 'unworthy' seems slightly condescending and should not be tolerated. We are all here for the same reason, and in the end, teasing someone already down who has worked just as hard as everyone else is unfair bullying.

Congratulations to those who were accepted, and best of luck to those (including myself) who weren't.

LRose - I am not bullying anybody at all. I was just expressing how I felt about some of the posts I have read. There WAS a post about them accepting only the first 100 applicants.... I can understand being upset and venting, and my heart really does go out to everyone going through the stress of the "unknown" at this point. But apparently I am not the only one who feels this way, because my post was liked by many who have also been accepted..... So just because we got accepted, it is ok for others to speak sourly about those accepted.??? Because that is how I took it.......

I am not and have never been a bully nor was I teasing somebody already down.... Please don't label me as such. I know EVERYONE has worked hard... I never said otherwise. And if you look at all the posts I have written previously since NOV.... you will see that I have been nothing but supportive and encouraging for EVERYONE.... even AFTER I was accepted I was still cheering EVERYONE on!

I think all anybody wants is to know is the selection criteria UTHSC uses. This information should be posted along with their methodologies on selecting candidates. It is based on additional factors other than just scores and GPAs. I believe that was even stated by the college in the information session. It is difficult to make improvements and to set goals when you don't know what you are being measured against. I don't think anyone here was begrudging or disparaging anybody. Everyone knows exactly how much work and effort it takes to get to this place. It would be nice to know what else someone needs to do to move to the next phase.

I remember last semester there being many more people who posted to the forum that they'd gotten in. Hemphia, were you accepted to the Pacesetter or the traditional program?

Maybe they just started doing status updates for the Pacesetters? Just a thought.. after all so many people have awesome grades and I'm shocked that so few have posted they were accepted.

When I called and spoke to someone about my acceptance she told me that I was accepted for the "generic" program. That was one of the factors that I was considering when I was considering them. I really didn't want the pacesetter program. It may not have kept me from accepting in the end, but it was a factor I was considering...... Sorry I cannot be more help. Maybe they were looking at learning styles as well as CT scores.... I have also heard that they really looked at the math and comprehension on the HESI. It would be nice if we knew...... but maybe they don't want us to know because they don't want everyone to model their ideal applicant... this way they don't have 600 applicants that are identical..... I don't know....
