UTH Cizik School of Nursing BSN Pacesetter- Spring 2020
Updated: Published
I thought I'd start this feed now. I applied in January. I know I'm early but I'm not much of a procrastinator. I just retook my Hesi and got a 89.2.. I feel I need to take it over but, some people are saying they don't even know UT's selection process. Can anyone enlighten me on that?

Hi!
I am planning on submitting my app to UTH soon also. I originally submitted my app to Lonestar and was excited to attend their adn prog, but we had a change at home and will now be in the downtown area. We live in Magnolia. I've taken the Hesi, I'm done with ap1 and ap2, pharm, and the core classes. This summer I'll do med micro, nutrition, and stats. I'll only be missing chem. Does anyone know how competitive the selection is at UTH? At lonestar mont its grueling.
Hey, I haven’t taken my Hesi yet, but just purchased the review book. I’m honestly just trying my luck with it health, I really want to go there but I heard it can be quite competitive some people don’t even bother applying, cause they know it’s hard to get in, but there’s no harm in trying. I recently registered for a webinar, since i’ll Never have time to go there, what sources did you use to study for the Hesi?
Hi guys! I used this study guide book called "HESI A2 Study Guide: HESI Exam Prep and Practice Test Questions" by HESI A2 Study Guide Team when I took it last year's February. I only studied that one book for like almost a month. After that i just did as many practice questions as I could. My overall hesi score was 92% (Math 98%; Reading 92%; Grammar 96%; Vocab 86%; A&P 88%)
As for UTs selection process well no one really knows lol there's no visible pattern as to how they pick who they pick. The only thing I know is that the summer semester is "less competitive" to get into than fall or spring since less people apply for the summer semester. Most people say it is sort of like a lottery since people with different GPAs get in. I completed all my prereqs in spring 2018 and I applied for their fall semester and got denied, applied for spring 2019 and got waitlisted and denied and finally applied for this summer and finally got accepted without retaking the hesi or any classes.
I also used the elsevier hesi book and an app called pocket prep hesi a2. The app did help but was like $20. For Math (my worst subject) I went to the tutoring center at lonestar Montgomery and a sweet older lady sat with a group of us hesi takers and went through the math with us from the hesi book. She taught us ratios and proportions, how to convert measurements. The "King Henry Died Drinking Chocolate Milk" was very helpful for us to convert measurements. I also did alot of hesi quizlets for different subjects, mostly AP. With all that I passed the Hesi with a 92. On Pinterest there is also a conversion chart with a big G (gallon). Just type in Hesi conversion chart and the big G should come up. All that was on my exam.

Do you think GPA matters more or HESI? My gpa is pretty low rn but i'm pretty satisfied with my HESI score, although it is not as high as yours I got denied for Spring 2019 and Summer 2019, so im trying one more time

I honestly don't know. I think it's all weighted very evenly. For all 3 semesters that I applied to I knew a whole lot of other students who had way better GPAs than i did like literally 4.0 GPAs in their overall GPA and science and nursing or very close to it and some of them were denied even though they had amazing grades and had experience. My overall gpa is 3.593 my nursing prereq 3.622 and science gpa is 3.312. My numbers are definitely not as high as others. Honestly I say you keep trying!!! Your hesi scores are good especially in individual categories since your a&p was really high which is important for any nursing program!!!
What other schools are you guys applying too.
I'm going to try the following
Alvin ADN
Galveston ADN
UTMB BSN
SanJac ADN
of course and UT Health
I guess it's just a waiting game now.
I applied for two LVNs programs Galveston (waitlisted ill get rejected. they had two nontransferable classes I refuse to waist my time on) SanJac (rejected).. Oh well! I decided after I applied to them that I had to many good prerequisites to go LVN..

well not the lowest per se. i meant if you retook it, they only take the most recent score even if it was lower than your first time
sorry for the miswording haha
