UTH Cizik School of Nursing BSN Pacesetter- Spring 2020
Updated: Published
I thought I'd start this feed now. I applied in January. I know I'm early but I'm not much of a procrastinator. I just retook my Hesi and got a 89.2.. I feel I need to take it over but, some people are saying they don't even know UT's selection process. Can anyone enlighten me on that?
Just now, DontWorryBeHappy said:At the info session a couple of weeks back the person speaking said they only base it on grades and HESI. I wonder why they'd reject someone with scores like that?
From what I have read in these discussions and just in general is that the school gets a wide range of students with different scores. Thats why the average GPA is a 3.5 at the school. Theres only so many spots at the school with so many applicants, so if they only accepted people with 4.0's there would not be room for anyone else.
Hi everyone my name is Jewel and I'm a current J1 student for Fall 2019!!! I know you guys haven't gotten your acceptance letters yet but I just wanted to mention that I'll be needing a new roommate starting the Spring 2020 semester. So if you're interested by the time you know you're in then please let me know!
Also, I'm free to answer any questions about admissions and the J1 semester! :--)

Honestly, @olay1 is right. I spoke to a past admin who dealt with the applications in the nursing department and confirms this. They consider way more than just GPA and HESI scores.
There were some students who would retake a science class sometimes more than twice, or even three times, just to get an A, ultimately raising their GPA to a 4.0. So if they had to consider who would be the best fit for their nursing program between a person with a 3.7 GPA and didn’t have to retake their pre-reqs, or a person with a 4.0 but they failed/scored low on their A&P/microbio class a few times, they would take the prior of the choices.

That makes total sense, I hadn't realized that. Thanks to everyone who shared their experience and insights.

This is exactly what was explained during the info session I attended. If you have a 4.0, great. But if you had to take multiple classes several times to get that 4.0, that is absolutely taken into consideration. From what I understood, your entire academic history will be looked at....everything. So yes, even though they base admissions criteria off of a numbers matrix, the number of times you had to take each class is included in the matrix.

Thanks for sharing, it makes total sense as to why they'd do that.
