Utah RN pay, Salt Lake City area

U.S.A. Utah

Published

Why are the RN salaries lower than other similar sized Western cities? Denver pays more why? Please do not say cost of living, because Intermountain does not take cost of living into consideration when considering salary. Just curious of nurse in Utah ever questioned their salaries here. Thanks for any input.

Does anybody has any info on the market for new grads in utah today? pay? job openings? thank you

Hi I'm looking into moving to Utah after I become an FNP in Ca can you tell me any info on what's the going rate for an FNP there? or if it's even a job that is in demand?

I am an RN from Utah. I have worked for Intermountain before and I am making the transition back to Intermountain. I have a BSN and 4 years of experience. I have been a home health and hospice director for 1.5 years and needed to get back to the clinical setting. I negotiated my pay and was offered 30 dollars an hour. It's not great considering I make over 75k right now but the flexibility is what I am looking for.

How did you like working for intermountain related to flexibility and benefits?

I worked several years for Intermountain. Great company. Treats their employees well. Benefits were good. Not sure what you mean by flexibility. They gave me my foundation for my new employer though. I recommend them. They pay low, though.

Do you know anything about FNPs the pay and job market?

Thank you for the reply. By flexibility, I meant about the scheduling. I worked in places where I was required to work 50% nights, 50% days and had no control over my schedule for the first 3 months. Now, I am pretty much straight nights which I prefer and a schedule that works great. In the end, it won't matter because I will take any schedule as a new graduate nurse and work as much as possible to gain experience.

Intermountain is starting new grads around $24, the U and St marks are not too far from what Intermountain pays. House/Rent keep going up and I work with several people that are already working two jobs. Fair rent if you are willing to commute but commuting is getting worst with the amount of people moving into town. Anyways, seems like the low pay for nurses in Utah has been around for a long time.

I would love to move for better pay, experiences, and more diversity.

What would you advise? to stay get two years experience in a low paying job? or move to get the experience somewhere else where you can be paid fairly? If you do the residency at intermountain, how long is the contract?

I am not sure about the market for FNPs, hopefully someone knows. I only know that one of my lab professors at my program graduated as a FNP and moved away. She had 10 years experience in the ICU before doing the FNP program and it was a person that had done some traveling during her career as a nurse. I don't know if she moved because of the market or if it was time for something new for her.

Check the intermountain job posting pages. They have several openings for FNP's in the state and I believe the pay starts at $40-$45 an hour.

I was hired as a new graduate with IHC into the ICU. Although I already worked for them before becoming a nurse. I got my one year experience. Then I applied out of state and got a job that pays over $50/hr. My experience with IHC allowed that to happen. I ended up staying PRN with IHC and only quit a few months ago. Great company. But will always pay nurses pennies. Because that's how it is in Utah.

Intermountain requires 1 year contracts for new RN's. The U requires 2 years. If I stayed for 2 years I'd be going crazy making only $25/hr. I now make $60/hr. Glad I left IHC... the pay is disappointing.

I would like to send you a private msg but I can't because I don't have enough posts online. Could you please send me a private msg? I have a couple of questions regarding to contract and few other things. Thank you.

You only need a total of 15 posts on this website in order to private message. You have 14. But yes, I will send you a PM and am happy to answer your questions.

It’s now July 2019. Just wanted to mention that I was working as a California RN for a unionized hospital... then moved to Utah three years ago because of my husband’s new job in law enforcement. Let me tell you how much that tremendous pay-cut had left me feeling so depressed and wanting to go back home since the moment I found out how much I was getting paid here in UT. Apparently now I’m on the “higher pay grade” but still nowhere near what I was making in CA. Idk any other experienced CA nurse making the move I did. There’s a good reason why.
