Nursing salary in Salt lake city and surrounding areas

  1. Hey I'm nurse with one year experience and was debating on moving to SLC because i fell in love with the city. I've been hearing that nurses don't get paid good in SLC but wanted to know a general idea of how much the salary is? what specialty pays the most? thank you

Intermountain and the U will probably be the highest paying in SLC. At a year's experience I think I was making $25/hr? But I think both groups have done multiple market adjustments since then, so I don't know what the going rate is now. It's OK for the cost of living, but not anything spectacular. I'm not sure about Intermountain, but at the U there is no difference in pay between specialties. Certification can help you move up on the clinical ladder.

Hello! I am just finishing my program in SLC. I am moving back to Portland after, but I asked almost all my preceptors what the going rate for their unit as a new grad is, and they all said within the 22-25/hr range. Even with a good amount of years in, people were reporting less than 30, but I will say that they have an impressive market for new grads. You won't have a hard time looking for a position as a new grad.

Starting for new grad at the University of Utah in 2015 was $22.75. I am currently making $28 and some change after 3.5 years of experience in med/surg. Hope this helps.
