UTA Spring 2012

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

Question for those taking Path (or those who have taken Path) with Stephens - is she going to open the previous tests for review? I can not find anywhere in the syllabus that would help me find that information.

Thanks so much.

SA 425: hey on the acceptance we just need to check on the sentence saying that we want to accepted to study in the program and sign and date right? I turn it in person because i dont want to lost it by using mail-

I did not get into the program either, despite having great gpa's in both areas. I am not partnered with anyone, and the "sales person" I spoke to never emphasized how being partnered with a hospital almost guaranteed you entry into the program. I honestly do not know how they go about the selection process.

I haven't received my letter. But it was my understanding from not only my "salesperson", but also my partnered hospital that we partnered folks rankings are based upon our own partnered facility applicants, meaning I am at Baylor and I am only competing against other Baylor employees trying to get into the program for that semester. If there are not enough Baylor folks to make a complete cluster, they then fill those spots with non-partnered students who have been ranked separately.

I cannot go to JPS, Methodist, or say HCA, so I wouldn't be ranked against those partnered individuals. Now, for the full-time, day, on-campus program you are ranked against everyone.

How true this is...no idea...seeing as we all have gotten different stories from pretty much everyone we have talked to. Seems a bit misleading to me...one would think it would be clearly outlined on the website exactly how the process works...but ambiguity is powerful in situations like this where folks are vying for spots....

At Baylor, you are able to use the partnership code on your first day and there is no continued employment obligation. I know some other facilities require contracts and continued employment, we are not one of those - at least at the time of my application.

Nickkib376,

Would you be willing to share your pharm notes on the new material. I have a system that I follow, but did not do it on the newest material that we will have on the final. Thanks.

@julie1451 - That is exactly what I did. I did include emergency contact info. And thank you for reminding me to check the status of my certified mail.

I was under the assumption, but in the acceptance packet there is a form for you to rank the partner sites from 1-12, with 1 being the place you'd prefer to be partnered with. I didn't really understand that step. I am not partnered, but I'm only interested in being partnered with one facility. If you're partnered, it does ask that you provided the name of the facility. I'm not sure how that form is suppose to work. Maybe its just for those who are not partnered.

Just an FYI - I had them fax my letter to me at work today and am waitlisted.

Thanks lagremillion...this is something I'm considering...great info! :)

As far as the "salesperson" thing...yea that's a complete joke! They make NO mention of a "partnership" and how spots are primarily for partnered applicants and how non-partnered applicants have only a select few spots available. But after thinking this over, I've realized their sole job & responsibility is to get as many people to enroll and give their money to UTA for the prerequisite courses so I should've done more research before I fell for their spill!

Does anyone know how many total people they have wait listed...seems to be a lot just here on allnurses...so I'm just curious? Anyone talked to their advisors about how many spots were given to non-partnered applicants?

@tejas03 - my advisor would not disclose how many are wait listed and said she can't say the position I am in. Bummer! I am not sure on how many nonparterned people were accepted but I asked if there were 2 wait lists - one for partnered applicants and one for non-partnered applicants and she said there was only 1 wait list.

Its a shame this isn't a site for ALLNURSES and ATTORNEYS...haha...seems like there is a lot of snake oiling on the part of UTA and that somehow there should be full disclosure that a lot of you are not getting. Luring students to spend 3 to 4 times the amount on prerequiste courses that can be taken at a community college for far less and not telling you that partnered students get preferential placement is the same thing as false advertising or predatory lending.

@McKinneyMom...well you know my advisor would not release ANY info to me when she and I emailed back and forth last Thursday afternoon and Friday....so very disheartening to me!!! :(

She wouldn't even tell me info that was already on here such as, the official number of ranked applicants...she said that info was "confidential" seems a little strange to me!! :(

I am still anxious to see how all this plays out before I decide what to do about Fall 2012...praying you all get called and have a spot!! :)
