Alas! Here I go again! This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!
@Mochachild...a B is great!! Yea! I have heard a lot about how hard that class is so that's awesome! :)
Wow...if they notify Nov 1st that's only 3 months away....I'm anxious to just know...it's not like it was last time where I was really nervous. This time around, I just want to know one way or the other...it's thankfully better this time...I will succeed somewhere even if it's not UTA. I'm retaking my A&Ps in the Fall to prepare the path for plan B (just in case )
I'm getting excited for you to hear where all you get accepted!!! :)
Hi! I'm also applying for the UTA traditional program. I am thinking about apply to TWU in Dallas as my back up plan. Does anyone know how competitive TWU's nursing program is compared to UTA's?
Back in May, my adviser told that they reserve spots for Pharm and Patho for nursing school applicants, and as long as I pass chemistry during the summer, I will be fine when I go to register for classes. Is that true? It's hard to believe that they can reserve seats with the amount of applicants to the program. My chem class wont even be through until the 15th. I'm trying to get a hold of an adviser, but it is difficult since my old one is no longer working for them. Now, they are telling me I have to talk to the Chemistry department about taking Pharm and Patho.
I wish everyone the best of luck getting in!
ok, i heard back from my advisor re: employment at partner hospitals and being a partnered applicant. this is a cut/paste of the email below.
for the spring application, you would need to be partnered by the first of october to be considered partnered. here is the list for the spring term:
spring 2012 ap bsn partner hospitals:
thr dallas (presbyterian)
thr arlington memorial
tbd (thr)
tbd (thr)
baylor medical center
parkland & dallas children's
john peter smith (jps) & cook children's
methodist mansfield
hca plano
st. elizabeth (beaumont)
no luck on the job front for me so far. despite having "impressive credentials" (hahahaha), i am still not able to even get an interview. i have a degree and an excellent work history and it's not like i am applying for skilled positions--primarily clerical stuff, which i can definitely do. oh well...just gonna keep putting in apps.
@Libra1018...thanks for letting us know!! Also just a side note...that's the same list I received but Methodist Mansfield is listed and my husband works there and they are only partnered for the RN-BSN program through Academic Partnership (per the hospital human resource/education director) so I'm not sure why they keep listing that one...so just thought I would mention that.
I'm in the same boat as you...nothing on the job front! Just keep moving forward and praying.....
Thanks, Tejas! Keep us posted! I am thinking I will take Micro thru UTA. I hate to do that--the $ for tuition/labpaq, etc. and the disarray it seems to be in--and would prefer to do it at TCC or DCCD, but if I am trying to find work, I need to have open availability on my work hours . Hate that. I would REALLY prefer to do Micro in person. BTW, I am not sure if I said it in my email to you, but the lab assignments/lecture quizzes will be the same in A & P II as you have in Micro. The labs are ridiculously easy and the lecture quizzes way more difficult, though "A-able" :).
I won't be able to apply to TCC for Spring because I have not retaken Micro yet and they do not look at courses in progress. I am looking into Weatherford's LVN, but now I am even nervous about that. You get a bunch of extra points for having Med Term and I have not taken that. I won't even be able to squeeze it in before the app deadline. Anyone know of any colleges that offers this online for a decent price? Even out of state would be OK. I have been looking for an open enrollment online classes that will offer college credit and that I can complete at my pace (which will be fast, since I need it by end of September!)
@Libra1018....I know what you mean about the "courses in progress"...it really stinks! I wish UTA would at least "glance" at courses in progress so they could see how hard people are trying yet they don't either.
Micro is doable...you just need to be committed and prepared to study a lot! Her labs at super easy!! Lecture is another story...you really need to read the book and then read her notes and take your own notes on everything!! You could do it!! :)
Unfortunately, I do not know of any med term classes...does UTA offer that as one of their AP 5 wk classes?? I hope you can find one soon! Where all have you applied?!
@ Libra. I'm taking my classes on campus. I wonder if I can take a few courses online and on campus at the same time. I prefer on campus, but if I have to take them on line if that is what I have to do. I just need to take the 3 nursing prereqs so I can get in.
There's only a few spots left for Pharm and Patho (on campus). I'm afraid they will be gone when I finish Chem in 2 weeks. I really wish they would let me register before I finish chem. I know I will pass the class with at least a B. If I can't take them in the fall, I'm really hoping that they will have those 2 classes available during the Winter Intersession.
I called my adviser and no one answered of course. So emailed her instead. How long does it take them to respond?

@tejas03
I ended up with a B in Pharm...and I'm good with that!
I received that email on 7.21.11 from E.F. (for those of us currently at UTA, we all know who this is), and it was some sort of "status" email. It also indicated that CON hopes to send out "status" by November 1. Maybe this is something new??
