UTA Spring 2012

Alas! Here I go again!;) This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!:D

@tejas03

I haven't had an interview as of yet. I am still trying waiting to hear back from Parkland. But in the mean time I apply to any and all positions at the partner hospitals including Patient care techs or anything that is entry level. I don't have any hospital experience so it's extremely hard for me to get a response. I was happy to get an email from Parkland allowing me to take the PCA test which is the test for Patient Care Assistants. I hear it's difficult to get on Parkland but I am trying anyway.

I applied to Parkland on the 16th and got an email from them on the 19th. It was pretty fast but the only thing is that the jobs that I applied for wasn't the job that they emailed me about.

@MsMila...what was the test like? What position did they email you about? I decided to go ahead and apply for a few positions with Parkland so we will see if they contact me...thanks for the info! :)

@tejas03

The test consisted of 2 parts. A spelling test and a math test. The spelling test was very easy! The math was very basic. Simple adding and subtracting, there was also some patient care questions which were common sense questions. You have to score 80% for both. I applied for patient care assistant and some administrative positions and was contacted about a PCA job, but it wasn't one that I applied for.

I really hope to get on at Methodist Mansfield or Medical Center of Arlington as they are really close to my home. Good luck and keep us posted! Have you tried Cooks, it's right next to Parkland.

@MsMila...great thanks!! I did not know MCA was one of the partnering hospitals...it was not on the list my advisor sent me last week...did they add it?!

I think the advisors get different information, my advisor told me it was one but she left off JPS in Fort Worth :uhoh3:

I asked again and she said the list had not changed, I am going to ask her again about JPS...but as for MCA she told me it was.

@MsMila...ugh...this is EXACTLY why UTA frustrates me so much!!! It's unbelievable how we all are told very different stories and how the advisors are telling everyone something different! I posted the listed that my advisor sent me on (page 17 or 18 can't remember exact) but I've read a couple different posts that various people say their advisor says a hospital is listed and then come to find out it's not...I'm so frustrated at the miscommunication here!!! :( If you email your advisor about JPS, please let me know what she says, as that's really where I would like to get a job due to it's the closest to me. I'm going to email my advisor again and just double check with her.

Hello everyone.

Are the UTA advisors out of the office? If so, when do they return?

I am puzzled about the partnered hospital. I work at one that was on the list. When I ask around at work about talking to someone about the program no one can answer me. I wonder how UTA verifies where you work?

@Cha1...The advisors are in their office during the week. You can just email or call them. What hospital do you work at?

A local children's hospital in the DFW area. It is clinical related. I have worked for several years then took time off to be with my kids. I didn't get in for fall 2011 so I decided to go back to work to help better my chances. I am going to take microbiology to increase my GPA.

I just wish UTA would include on their application your work history. I always thought the AP program was mostly for those who are seeking a second degree and that those who had been in healthcare would be accepted, of course with a good GPA. It seems like that is not the case. Which is a total bummer. I often wonder how many current students have already dropped out.

It looks like it is a plus if you have 30 or more hours taken at UTA, I will soon meet this criteria!!! Good luck.

@Cha1...I wish I knew how they really ranked everyone cause honestly I'm not sure even 30 hrs matters...it was always promoted as having a 2nd Bac was a plus yet my advisor stated "that's only a consideration but doesn't weight heavily" and the amount of hours hasn't helped those I know (myself included 1st Bac is from UTA so I have tons of hours from there) to get accepted. :(

I'm not sure how UTA verifies partnered people's employment...if you find out I would be curious! Is there someone at your hospital (possibly in education dept) who helps those of you wanting to apply get your application filled out and sent to UTA or are you alone in handling application?

@Tejas

I am currently in the UTA AP BSN Program that started in January of 2011 and to answer your question in regards to the verification of UTA's partnered employer.... there are two separate applications that must be turned in by the program entry deadline. One application is submitted to UTA College of Nursing and the other application is submitted to the Texas Health Resources main corporate building located in Arlington.

Hope that helps ya'll! I rarely check my allnurses blogs but if you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will try my best to respond as soon as I can.

Good LUCK to you all....

I was under the impression that having a BS and taking all my hours at UTA would be beneficial but I think that doesn't really help. I almost wish I would have taken my courses at TWU, since you get a .4 bump when you take 12 out of the 16 science courses with them. I really was excited about UTA but it is being frustrating as well as disappointing reading the horror stories and now to add that the advisors don't even know what hospitals are partners. It would make sense to put that on their website in my opinion.
