UTA Second Degree Fast Track Program

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Hey y'all!

I'm about to start taking my prereqs this summer to meet the Jan 5, 2010 app deadline for the University of Texas at Arlington Second Degree Fast Track Program.

Anyone around about to do the same thing? or anyone in the area already in or about to start another program?

well actually not...i emailed my advisor and she said there was a "glitch in the system" and, "at this point, we have not even processed your ap applications, so that letter was sent erroneously. i apologize for any emotional inconvenience the letter might have caused." now i need to call everyone in my family and tell them. great.

you have got to be kidding me. how do they make a mistake like that? sending out acceptance emails when they haven't even processed applications? wow. and you had to contact them to find out? they didn't even get in touch with you first? that is absolutely ridiculous. i'm sorry.

yah, thanks! I find it ridiculous that I had to contact them first. I sent her an email saying that they should have sent another mass email out apologizing.

Hi goopsy,

I did the same thing. I was super excited on Tuesday to find out I was accepted. It was such a surprise because my advisor said they would send out letters in November. I told all my family & then come to find out this morning it was an error. Ugh...it is so frustrating--so I guess now we wait a few more months. :(

I have spoken to my advisor at UTA regarding the Academic Partnership Fast Track program and she told me that they have partnerships with Parkland Hospital, Baylor Hospital (Dallas) and Medical City. I haven't seen anyone mention those hospitals after reading through the posts. She told me that those students that did their clinicals at Parkland or Baylor had to be employees but that it was possible to come into the program "unpartnered" and then be assigned to a hospital (Medical City?). She said that Texas Health Resources would likely be included as well in the very near future.

The biggest obstacle to coming in "unpartnered" is that the $16,000+ tuition is not eligible for financial aid at this time. However, I share the concerns that someone else expressed earlier that I would be contractually obligated to the hospital and have no choice in the area that they assign me to. I am not sure if this is negotiable with the various hospitals or not.

I am shooting for Spring 2011 admission because I can't make the deadline for Fall 2010 since I won't have 12 hours of the required science prerequisites completed by the deadline. I am taking Chemistry and A&P I right now and will take Micro and A&P II in the spring. All I will have left after that will be the three Pre-Nursing courses at UTA.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of GPA's that it will take to be competitive for this program?

gonnabetxnurse,

No I don't know what kind of GPAs are considered to be competitve since this is the first semester for them to start it. So how many of you guys actually applied for the fast track starting in the spring? I got a call today from UTA calling to make sure that I was unpartnered, which I am. They were tallying how many people are actually partnered vs how many are not. Good news...they said that we will find out about acceptance no later than the first week of November!! That's by Nov 6! I was originally told by the end of Nov.

I have since spoken to someone with the UTA Academic Partnership program & she informed me that the initial information that they had received concerning Parkland & Baylor was incorrect. UTA nursing students can do their clinicals there as part of the AP program without being employees of those hospitals.

For those of you who are Spring 2010 hopefuls, she did tell me that the class was full so it appears that the selections have been made! I have read all of the posts for those of you that have been stalking the mailman so hopefully they will get the notices out & ya'll can relax and enjoy life before nursing school starts!

All I can say is....pave the way for those of us that will be following in your footsteps! Hopefully, I will be there in Spring 2011 so keep on posting your experiences & giving us some idea of what we can look forward to.

:yeah::loveya:

Thanks for the info! When did you talk to her? I'm hoping I got in and hopefully that's why they called me yesterday! But I won't get too excited. You never know.

gentle terms of service reminder

i am glad so many are posting here. while it is important to network, please remember there are rules of this site called the terms of service (tos) that you all agreed to upon registration. please refer to the following portion of the tos which addresses the use of names.

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

  2. while
    allnurses.com
is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.

  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could
    identify the person
in any facility including your nursing programs.

names have been edited from several posts. thanks for understanding.

OK, I got the emails again saying I have been accepted! I hope it's true this time. I emailed my advisor but she hasn't responded yet...

Did anyone else get an email???

Wow Congrats Goopsy!!! I hope that means that we will find out for the regular bsn program this week too! :)
