I am planning to apply for the 15-month accelerated online BSN program at UTA in January for Fall 2014 admission.
I don't work for a partner hospital, and I know those applicants get priority. I do have a B.S. in Biomedical Science, so that gives me priority, but the admissions staff won't tell me what that means specifically. They also won't tell you what the typical cutoffs are for Natural Science and Overall GPA for admission. I was told that you have to have 3.5 or better on both to be "competitive." A friend was told 3.75.
If my Science GPA is 3.56 and my overall GPA is 3.73, what are my odds of getting in? I can retake one of the science classes to bring a B to an A, but I don't want to do it if I don't really need to. (It would bring my GPAs to 3.81 for Sci and 3.82 overall.)
I really want to do the accelerated program, but should I apply to the campus-based program also?
Would anyone that was admitted to UTA BSN program, either online or campus based, be willing to tell me what their GPAs were? Anyone that was rejected?

I was admitted to the fall 2013. My overall GPA was 3.87, my science was 3.75. I had 2 considerations: 12 science credits were taken in UTA, and more than 30 prereqs were taken in UTA. I was wait listed but the spot became available and I was accepted. I know there were many students wait listed, and only a few got accepted. It is very competitive. I would definitely recommend you to retake one or more science courses. Good luck!
Thanks. After reading some of the other threads, I concluded that I definitely need to retake at least 1 science class.
NSUTA, did you apply for both campus-based and online programs? Do you have a sense of which is more competitive?
I applied to the AP BSN program. I was not partnered. I'm not sure how competitive campus program.

OP this is off topic, but just in case things don't work out with UTA. Texas Tech has an accelerated 2nd BSN program, too.
eturner, thanks for the info. I will check into it. From the few programs I have looked at so far, the prerequisites seem to be very different, so it makes it hard to apply to several places simultaneously.

I am a current BSN online student here and highly recommend looking at a different school. The classes are accelerated but the coaches are not. There are deadlines for discussion boards and projects for the students, but don't expect feedback or grades for about 2 weeks after the due date. Since a large portion of your grade is related to your discussion board, it would be nice to have feedback before the next thread is due but that is not the case at UTA. When I have asked for the reason for the delays and it happens almost every class the response is: the coach was off sick, the coach was covering for another coach who was off sick, the coach needs to have time for her homelife so sometimes they run late. This is a very lack luster school and I wish I didn't have so much time invested becuase I would quit and sue them for false advertisement.

I am also in the AP BSN program at UT Arlington (Sr 1) and I have to say that my opinion and experience could not be any more different from nitenurse2rn. My coaches have provided good, timely feedback and on the odd occasion that they took a little long the professors have been more than willing to assist. I completely disagree with this being a lackluster school - it is challenging but we have great instructors in the program. Perhaps it is different mindsets or experiences - but I am very pleased with the program. My clinical site is Plaza Medical Center in Ft. Worth ~ love that little hospital!

My understanding is that Plaza is one for us unpartnered folks.
Thanks for your thoughts on the program! I've been taking prerequisites for the last 15 months and have had great experiences. I couldn't imagine it changing after I got in to upper level classes. Your post makes me excited to start!
