UTA Online BSN Accelerated Program Questions

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm seriously considering the UTA Online BSN Accelerated program (Not the RN-BSN bridge) and had a couple of questions I was really hoping I could get answers to -

1. For anyone that has completed or are currently in the program - did you like it? Do you ever wish you had opted for a different Accelerated program, maybe one that was in-class, such as TWU?

2. How are the lectures provided to you in the Online program? One of my biggest concerns is missing out on the classroom interaction aspect of things. I learn best when someone's actually teaching the material and I can re-watch lectures if needed. I once took an "online" course where they just mailed you the book and you had to read/learn the material yourself, no lectures/videos, and the instructor was only available via chat/email for questions. Not fun.

3. I have a previous Bachelors and Masters in Business/Accounting so I think I mainly need Science classes for my prereqs. I haven't done a Degree Audit yet (but I will soon). I'm currently finishing up Biology 1406 at Collin College, taking Gen Psych and Life-Span Psych in the summer, A&P-I in the Fall, and maybe A&P-II and Micro next Spring. Are there any other classes I may need to think about taking sooner besides these?

4. I submitted my applytexas application yesterday to UTA with a start date of August 15th this year, mainly did this in the hopes of starting on Pre-Nursing classes - Pharma/ Patho/ Intro to Prof Nursing at UTA (I was told that those had to be taken at UTA only). Is that correct and is it advisable to take these classes while also having a fulltime job and potentially other classes at Collin?

5. Was it easy for you to find study groups in the program and were the professors helpful in answering any questions?

6. Is the Online Accelerated BSN self-paced at all or is it pretty strict on finishing up classes within a set period of time?

7. Is it advisable to have a job (full-time or part-time) once you get accepted into the program?

8. For those that are now RNs, how are you liking being a nurse? Any advice for someone like me who's looking for that much needed career change?

Thank you so much. I know that's a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate any and all feedback.

that is what I am doing too, I am taking it when one week is left for pharmacology to end

Anyone here in the Waco/Temple area who is already in the program? Or know someone who is? I have specific questions about clinicals for this area. Thank you!

Hey guys!! I’m out of state and have been looking into this program. I have my BS in science and have worked in healthcare 14 years. It says the program is 12 months. But I’ve found other places that says 15 months. Which is still fine by me. But my question is besides all the pre-nursing courses, I found a long list of other pre-reqs. Like Texas government and a whole bunch more. Which to me would make the program a lot longer for someone not in the state of Texas. Are these really required?

Yes, unfortunately. In order to receive a BS in the state of Texas, you have to complete the Texas "core" classes, even if you have a BS from another state. I received my first BS in California. I've been spending the last 2 years taking the required core classes for Texas at a junior college so I can apply to the second-degree BSN programs.

Awe. Do you happen to know any other programs? I was looking at Emory as well. But that tuition ?!! Which I guess having to take all those other courses it would probably end up the same.

All of the programs in Texas require the same Texas "core" classes. I'm not looking at any outside of Texas right now if that's what you're asking.

Hi!

I've read that this program takes 15+ months to complete. If it is a set pace and syllabus, how can it take longer than 15 months? I really want to apply to this program, but I have two little kids at home and I don't know if I should. I'm a little nervous that I won't really see them during these 15 months. I would love it if I could take closer to 2 years to finish and not have such a super fast paced program.

Has anyone gone through this program and can tell me if there is a way to go through this program a little slower? Would you normally take 1 course at a time? Or several?

Thank you!

Miriam

I’m not really sure! I’m just now really looking into Emory. UTA says it’s 12 months, but all the pre reqs required for Texas It would definitely take me way longer to complete. Just looking at the syllabus though I think it’s pretty fast paced and you do take one class at a time but your completing them in like a 6 week time frame. The schedules are set.

I'm thinking on applying for the Spring 2021. I live in a different State. Will I be doing my lab simulations and clinicals in Texas ? Or, I can do them in my home State ?
