UTA GPA

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi all,

i was wondering for those of you that have been accepted into the fall 2009 nursing program for uta or that are currently in the program, what was gpa (prereq/overall) upon entering/applying for the program?

Hi ayeisha, i just got accepted into the program this fall at UTA. I believe my science gpa was around 3.75 and overall gpa was around 3.5. I wish you luck! Any questions about the admission process at UTA just ask and i'll try my best to help out anyway i can.

thanks for replying icestar and congrats on you acceptance! i jus wanted to get a feel of how competitive they are with gpa's. i am a student there trying to get in for this spring. my overall gpa is something like 3.75 and science gpa is 4.0, although i did take my science courses at community college. if you dont mind me asking, how was the interview process for you? Do you remember the type of questions that were asked? i know basic questions i might be asked like why i want to be a nurse, but was there any out of the norm type questions you were asked?

Thanks ayeisha! I wouldn't worry so much as your gpa's are stellar. I believe taking your science courses at a community college doesn't affect your standing on the acceptance list. The interview process for me went really well. I left the interview feeling very confident. I think they just want to see if you can communicate properly (grammar, pronunciation, be concise, etc.) and just to be able to have a conversation with them.

Some of the questions i remembered were of course first of why do you want to be a nurse? What UTA nursing means to you? What are your future plans after you become a nurse? How would you handle a stressful situation? What are your strengths/weaknesses? What is your nursing philosophy? Will you work during enrollment at UTA school of nursing? (they're looking for full-time students) How will you manage time if you're working part-time? List some values a nurse should have? List 5 things about yourself? Are you playful or serious most of the time? I would say serious because it allows me to be more focused.

The interview usually lasts around 45 minutes. But some things to keep in mind for the interview is to greet the interviewer by name, be sure to maintain eye contact at least 80% of the time, be prepared, ask good questions, anticipate questions, stay positive, say more (don't just say "yes"), dress up nicely but don't overdoit with makeup, gel, hairspray, etc. SMILE alot!

Hope that helps.. the nursing faculties at UTA are all wonderful and they try their best to make you as comfortable as you can. Remember don't try to sound like you reheorificed. Try to be yourself and stay positive! Good luck and keep me updated. If you have any more questions, do ask.

Hi IceStar817 and Ayiesha

I was scrolling through and I saw your post. Its fun to see UTA represented on AllNurses!!! I am a Spring 09 grad(YAY!:yeah:) and would like to tell you both Congrats(Icestar) and good luck(ayiesha). UTA's program is really a good one and many would like to be a part of it. A piece of advice I would give if you will have it is to focus on doing your best. I understand that GPA is the door opener, however, you have no control over the competition. The group of people you apply with may have more influence than you think. (if the gpa is lower as a whole your gpa may stand out more and vice versa)

As I always tell the students I mentored and came across, please don't stress yourselves to the limit worrying about the "A." (hehe) Although it is doable, it doesnt detract from you becoming an awesome nurse. You need to make sure you understand the information presented to you. As well all know, college tends to be all about the grades, but Nursing school is really about capturing knowledge and applying it. What good would you be if you scored hundreds on every test because you studied well(crammed) or were an awesome test-taker but when in hands on action you have no clue what is what and how to practice. Not to say that one may not be able to score well and be excellent in clinical, but I have come across fellow classmates that didnt score well on exams but were the best in patient care and applying information and were able to help others:yeah:.

Stay grounded and focused and MANAGE your time well. Dont let anyone tell you that you will have no life in Nursing school...you will if you make time...and PLEASE make time, you will go NUTS if you dont(smile:D). Take advantage of the resources like the LRC and staff(DeeDee is AWESOME) and the folks on the 6th floor. Don't be afraid to ask questions and most importantly for help. :nurse:

Congrats again and good luck!:banghead: (

Thanks jackson, RN! Congratz on finishing school, i'm excited for you haha!! I knew some of the girls that graduated from your class this year. I will definitely keep your words in mind when we start classes.

Best regards

thanks for the encouragment jackson! I will definately keep that in mind.

yes thank you Jackson and Icestar. i really do apreciate the encouragement. I think i can relax little now. There's nothing left to do but wait to hear for an interview and take it from there

I think I had the same questions in my head and jackson219 really helped me a lot with my jitters! I have 3 sciences left before I can apply and I'm taking the sciences anywhere I can. Had I known that taking the sciences at UTA were not all that important I would have continued to take them at community colleges. Enrolled in AP II and Pharmacology this fall and I'm really praying for a 3.5(or better). My advisor scared me saying that UTA is only considering students with a 3.8 gpa and I only have a 3.2, however I am able to explain concepts down to the wire, but a bad test taker. I have been hoping if colleges look at more than GPA and after your post jackson219, I see there is more than just A's n B's!

Thanks jackson, i will pm you if there's something in general about class/clinical that i'm confused about :D
