UTA Fall 2015 NP acceptance

Published

Hello! Has anyone else applied for Fall 2015 admission to any of the NP programs at UT-Arlington? It would be great to hear from any other applicants awaiting acceptance. :)

Hi, PMHNP student, did you figure out what courses to register for fall? Or do we wait until orientation for them to tell us.

I am having some classes evaluated for transfer and in some correspondence regarding the process for this the Director of my program said "You will be coming to campus for orientation and we will work on a degree plan for you that we will share with you on that day". I think we will receive our anticipated schedule on the 22nd.

Hi KSArlington, lweatherby is correct. I called and spoke with someone in the graduate nursing department and was told this would given to us in orientation. I too have some coursework which needs to be considered for transfer. Can't believe we'll finally start orientation next week. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Did they tell you today at orientation that it would take 2-3 months to evaluate transfer courses for credit? The handout said 2-3 weeks, but the advisor that I spoke with said realistically, it is 2-3 months. I was just wondering what you were told.

Lweatherby, you transferred in graduate courses too? I am honestly quite surprised because I was not expecting this. I submitted all of my transcripts and syllabi several months ago. I found out some of my courses were accepted for transfer on the day of orientation. However, I was told that an "official" letter needed to be issued indicating which courses were accepted for transfer. I understand that there were hundreds of students who applied. However, I expected this to be done months ago. I expected to have a degree plan in hand at orientation, not to wait months longer. At this point, I don't know what to do. How can I even register without knowing which courses they are actually going to accept?

I had applied for last spring. I also applied to 4 other programs. I was anxious to hear from UTA as they were my first choice, however, by the time they sent an acceptance letter all other programs had required that I decide so I turned them down. I made numerous calls, emails and basically nagged them for their decision but it wasn't until lat November (for a Jan start) that they had their act together.

In hindsite, many student's in my current program left UTA to attend the new A&M FNP program and seem to be glad they did. All of the other programs had sent acceptance invitations prior to the end off September so I think UTA is just disorganized. Hang in there, I'm sure you will hear eventually.

Yes. I am in the same situation. Except I only submitted my classes for review 3 weeks ago because I was told you could not submit them until you were accepted into the program. The math they gave me indicates I won't know if my classes have been accepted until after the semester has already started! That makes no sense to me. I have emailed the advisor again and asked what my options are. She mentioned something at orientation about pushing back starting the program for another semester. But I am not willing to do that. AND... I am not willing to just sit here and wait until the day before school starts to see if they accepted my classes. I would like to get registered so I can plan my life....not sure what to do either.

I applied in for FNP in april but have'nt received any emails yet.

Congrats to those of you who have heard back from UTA! I am curious if anyone minds sharing what your GPA looked like? I am currently in school for my RN and will be attending UTA for BSN. This is the school I would also like to attend for MSN.

Mine was 3.9. Wishing you the best!

I totally relate to everyone's frustration. My bottom line was if the administration was this disorganized that decisions were not made until AFTER registration needed to occur how could they run a successful program? As for the GPA question, my undergrad GPA in Nursing courses, which is what they seem to look at, was 3.71 with an overall of 3.89. I also have almost 20 years of experience as a BSN so I'm sure that was helpful in getting me in to all of my choices. I would think carefully about whether you are willing to deal with their methods as you will be pretty much stuck with it once you begin. At the MSN level only 9 credits can be transferred, and that is across the board to any institution. I have 2 classmates that have lost credits just to get out of that program but they seem to think it was worth it. Good luck!
