UT Memphis totally revamping their program

Published

hi everybody. i have been looking into ut's 18-month second degree program. i would be entering in 2009 (class of 2010). i was diving deeper into their website the other day and saw that they are totally doing away with their bsn program. anyone applying to the bsn program will be directly admitted to the msn program and those applying to the traditional msn program will be directly admitted to the doctorate program.

the original second degree bsn program was 18 months, but they're saying on the website that the program duration hasn't been determined yet.

does anyone have any info on this? msn program duration? msn entry requirements that may differ from those of the current bsn program? any info would be great!!!

thanks,

hbgwan

I don't have anything to help, other than that you can look further on the website and find the '2010 plan' which is pretty detailed.

Try contacting Jim Pruett in Student Services - he has been very helpful for me! I'm going to be in the 2nd degree BSN program starting in July. It's a huge change they are implementing.

Hi~

I spoke to someone at the school and she told me that the program will most likely be two years and the prereqs will be similar to the BSN program. I'm going to be applying to the new program. I'm excited about it!

I was currently accepted to UT Memphis's last BSN program that starts this summer. I'm excited about the change b/c I plan to go to graduate school and get to skip right over the MSN program. Are you sure the BSN is going to MSN I thought it was just turning into a stright up grad school? And the stuff in MSN is going DSN and the MSN program is becoming something called a Nurse Leader. :nurse:

Anyone applying to the new CNL program that starts in July at UT Memphis? I completed my application and sent it in last week. Now the waiting begins......

No, I decided not to apply. After attending the information sessions, I'm just not willing to live off loans for two years for a degree that I won't really see that much more money from than a BSN. Plus, I called a few local hospitals and none have committed to hiring CNL's and you'll have to start off as a staff nurse anyways (That was what the VA recruiter told me). So, I'm starting Baptist's night/weekend program and will continue to work full time as long as I can. For me, this was the best option. I have a mortgage to pay!

Good luck to you!

Good luck to you also, Memphis Tiger! I was between Union and UT... liked that Union would take 12 months but did not like the price tag! I am hoping the CNL will help me in the long run.... I am wanting to eventually become a CRNA and maybe having a MSN from UT will get my foot in the door. Are you having to take alot of additional classes at Baptist (Religion, etc.) ?

If I hadn't just bought a house, I would have done UT or Union and just lived with my parents. I know several nurses who did Union's program and liked it.

Unfortunately, I am having to take several gen ed courses, like Philosophy and Religion. I already have a B.A. and a M.S. so I wish they would waive the non-science gen eds, but oh well. It's my only option to be able to continue working.
