Hello Future Nurses,
Wanted to know if anyone was preparing to take the Hesi a2, and or applying to UT Houston before the Jan. 15, 2014 deadline for Fall 2014???? I would like to form a study forum!!
Hello all! I'm so nervous about this process. I have submitted all my transcripts. I currently have a 3.7 in my science GPA and a 3.5 ish on my overall GPA. I don't even know if that is competitive. I have not yet taken my HESI, plan on taking it August 9. I want to apply for spring 2015. For those who have been accepted. Congrats! I was wondering if anyone knew the average GPA for acceptance. Ugh. Did anyone get accepted with stats like mines? I see a lot of people have 4.0 and 3.9 GPA.. Thanks in advance
Howdy!
Curious to know a few things (and hoping someone can sum up the vast experiences shared in this thread):
1) Are people with pre-reqs still unfulfilled placed on a wait-list/not accepted, even if it's clear they are going to finish them before the semester start date?
2) what is the HESI and pre-req GPA accepted folks are carrying? I saw a thread re: HESI scores for roughly 30 people for Fall 2014.
3) Given #2 (the HESI's had a fairly wide spread), could #1 be the deciding factor?
4) What do folks think, personally, contributed to them getting accepted over someone else?
Thank you for your time

1. No they are not. As long as you meet these requirements regarding pre-reqs:
"To be considered, you must complete at least 40 hours of the required 60 hours of prerequisite work by the program application deadline. 8 hours, of those 40 hours, must be from the science prerequisites of: Human Anatomy and Physiology , Microbiology, Chemistry. If you are admitted into the program ALL 60 hours of prerequisites must be completed by the start of the program."

2. I got an 88% overall on the HESI, and a 950 on critical thinking. I had a 3.67 GPA when I applied.
3. I don't think anything alone is the deciding factor. It is a combination of things, and it is something I don't think anyone has quite figured out completely. There are many theories, but there is really nothing clear cut about the "deciding factor." With my experience, that is true with all nursing schools.
4. I personally think my HESI critical thinking score got me in, along with consistent straight 4.0s my last few semesters. What brought my GPA down was a combination of first semester in college and dual credits from high school. But honestly that is just a guess.

I honestly think that they have some lottery they pull from to pick people.
But in any case, I would take it again. Even if the hesi really doesn't matter and it's a lottery, it's better for you to work on your knowledge of A&P. :) good luck!
