Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).
I'll start:
I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.
I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.
God bless.
If you used the UT Health code to register, they upload the scores directly once a month. I believe they were to do it the day after registration ended, but since they extended the deadline, I am sure they did it later. If you did not use the UT Health code to register, then it was on you to make sure that they received the latest. PVAMU might not have received it because you used the UT Health code to register (this I do not know).
Hey Brandon, can you opine on my situation? You said you have appplied twice and I would appreciate your experience becos my to do list on applyuth shows complete but I'm going crazy all day today after I got informed by Elsevier that they only sent my last HESI score to UT Health (which happens to be my best score). At the last info session, I remember them saying that we needed to send all HESI scores as failure to do so would disqualify an application. Can someone with any such experience also say how worried I should be? I did not receive an evaluation despite applying since July and only got to know about this today bcos I just received one from PVAMU and they stated that they are missing a HESI transcript.
Also, is it okay to send the missing HESI transcript even though the deadline has passed and UT Health is probably currently making decisions on our application?????
PS. I called the registra's office all day today but could not get anyone on the phone.
Did you take the HESI twice or something? Was any of your HESI registered with the UTHealth code? I'm sort of confused by what you are asking.
Btw.. I called UTHealth three times to ask about my situation. So I took my HESI accidently under PVAMU code (I know, I'm stupid, but I clicked the wrong email). Well, PVAMU was missing a section needed for UTHealth, so I had to retake the whole thing again. I asked if I were to take it again under UTHealth's code, would it be my first try or second try since I didnt send my first score to them,it would be my first time taking it under their code, and I was missing a section from the first exam.
First Person: Said it would count as my second try
Second Person: Said it would NOT count as my second try since I didn't send my score to UTHealth and that it would only count as my second try if I sent them my first score.
Third Person: Said it would count as my second try.
(they all told me I have to take the retake version though)
None of them said anything about me having to send my first score. So maybe that will help you? I am not sure myself (i never attended a info session)
I also assumed that once they get your report, that Elsevier would show all your previous exams too. (I guess I thought wrong?)
Hi Everyone. Not sure if this will help since we are way passed the deadline. But I never took my HESI under any nursing school, it took it under CyFair. I then requested a transcript from Elsevier and had them sent it to the schools I was applying to. It was $15. When you log in you can see the scores from all the times you've taken it & then request them to be sent. It does take 7-10 days to receive .
I took the HESI twice with lonestar college code so I sent my transcript to UTHealth. I also assumed that when you send your transcript they would usually send all your tests scores which is why I was shocked to here back from PVAMU that they did not receive my initial test score. But it's a little assuring to know that not once did they say you had to send your first test score.
I remember at the info session in September when they stressed on treacherous behavior as disqualifying so I'm hoping it does not seem duplicitous that I left out the first score on purpose bcos it was my lowest score (84%).
I was told by PVAMU that they also did not receive my HESI scores but I knew for a fact it was sent! I emailed Vernica Anderson and she double checked, it was so hectic after the hurricane. She emailed me stating she had found it! Here is her email ([email protected]). I didn't receive an actual evaluation I just emailed her and she stated I had everything needed. She replies to emails the same day or the day after!
I have a question for you guys.
So I have been accepted into UTHSC- SA as well as UTTyler and am currently waiting on UTHealth- Houston. If i get into UTHealth- Houston, no doubt I will take it as that is my first choice. However, I was just wondering what yalls opinion was on the first two schools if I were to chose only between those two (UTHSC-SA and UTTyler).

Where do you live currently? Would you be able to receive aid for either school? Housing? What are their pass rates for the nclex? How long is the program? How big are their classes? I would make an decision based off answers from the questions above, but that's just me.

What things did they say and do at a information session? If you could say anything you remember from it, that would be greatly appreciated.
I currently live in Houston.
I am able to recieve aid from both schools
NCLEX pass rate: UTHSCSA is around 78-82% whereas UTTyler is around 90% (uthscsa has a few more people taking the exam- almost 50more)
class size is about the same but im not a 100% sure - approximately 120 students
program length is 2 years (excluding summer)
I want to base the decision off of the best school to study at.
PS. UTHSCSA is at the heart of the South Texas Medical center and i feel like i will have better clinical exposure there vs Tyler.
It seems like you have already made the decision of picking UTHSA even though it has a lower pass rate. If you feel like you would have better exposure and you'd benefit from being at UTHSA I would go ahead and pick UTHSCA assuming you don't get accepted into uth. Because you said that you would receive aid, housing isn't a problem, the classes are the same size, etc.
