I haven't seen a topic for the UT Health Fall 2018 program, so here it is!
I am applying for the fall with following stats:
Prereq GPA 3.65
Science GPA 4.00
HESI (just took it last Friday):
Reading 90
Vocab 92
Grammar 84
Math 96
AP 100
I am making a career shift with a BS in Chemistry that I got from UH Downtown.
Good luck everyone!
I was accepted but haven't actually posted my stats yet:
Hesi:
A&P 92
Vocab 96
Math 98
Grammar 100
Reading 94
Nursing GPA and science GPA right around 3.7 (Both more like 3.9 now that I have finished the prereqs). When I applied originally I was also short 14 credit hours (A&P I&II, nutrition, and lifespan development), all of which I finished in the last semester while working full-time as an R&D tech. I honestly think what got me in was my previous degree. I have a bachelor's in biochemistry and genetics with minors in women's studies and psychology from A&M and a solid quarter of that coursework was honors.
I think the main thing to keep in mind is that it isn't all about your numbers. Their website specifically says don't work on a point system and they seem to evaluate people pretty holistically.
That said, I have no idea why they would turn down a vet with prior medical experience and solid scores. I'm really sorry they have consistently missed you over the last few cycles, meandy. I really hope you can get into another program!
Like a few of you, this is my third time applying; and like the previous two times my portal continues to say "application under review" after acceptances and waitlists have gone out. I've only received a transcript evaluation the first time. My stats are:
94.4 HESI overall
3.83 Nursing Pre-req GPA
4.0 Science GPA
When I went to an info session I asked if they look at your overall gpa when reviewing applicants and I was told no, but that doesn't really make sense considering they calculate it on the transcript evaluations. With that being said, my overall GPA is 3.19. So maybe that's why I'm getting turned down. I really don't know.
I cried a lot my first two denials, but now I'm just getting angry. What are their reasons for accepting people because clearly it isn't just the numbers like they've told us.
Sorry to be a complainer, I just hate that I don't know why I'm getting denied to the only nursing school I really want to attend.
From what I've seen it varies. When I applied last Spring, it didn't seem like any were accepted from the waitlist, but they could have just not posted on the forum. However, last summer I saw several people from the waitlist were notified that they were accepted, but some were really last minute, like a week before class started.
