UT Health Pacesetter BSN Fall 2018

Published

I haven't seen a topic for the UT Health Fall 2018 program, so here it is!

I am applying for the fall with following stats:

Prereq GPA 3.65

Science GPA 4.00

HESI (just took it last Friday):

Reading 90

Vocab 92

Grammar 84

Math 96

AP 100

I am making a career shift with a BS in Chemistry that I got from UH Downtown.

Good luck everyone!

There's a branch of TWU in Dallas that my friend attends and she loves it there. I am from Houston! Live in The Woodlands currently.

I was going to apply to TWU but there's a few classes that they require that I don't have, so that would an extra semester of prereqs :/

Yeah for TWU I have to do another semester too and take my TEAS which is my backup plan if I get rejected into UT. I'll try again for them but I'll also try Sam Houston, and TWU. I wish the University of Houston had a nursing school, but they only offer RN to BSN.

Yeah! I want one too because I really want to attend uthsc. It's my dream school! Lol so if I'm missing something, I'd like to know.

I'm gonna check out chrome too. Hopefully everything is good. I have a back up plan just in case I don't get into UTH (Lonestar) but I would still like to go to UTH. It would really suck if I lost out on admission just because I didn't turn something in one time to the school.

It's my dream school too!

Did you ever end up using chrome and like seeing your status?

Does anyone think that they take work load into consideration?? Like how many classes you take in a semester?

I currently attend Sam Houston and I am also applying there!

U of H also offers a second degree nursing program, hopefully that helps some widen their options for next time. Not very many schools "close" that offer a BSN. I can't really relocate, I have a kiddo getting ready to graduation and one that will be starting school in about 2 years.

Yes I'd give anything to go to that school! Lol

Yes I did! Lol my laptop is currently broken so I sent my boyfriend to his sister's house to check my portal. Sure enough, my application is under review! Idk why its not showing on mobile.

Maybe we should do a quick little introduction of ourselves since we're going to be on this forum for what seems like several weeks.

I'll start!

I'm originally from Austin but moved to Houston about four years ago. I just had a baby in January and I've been raising my nephew for about four years (he's 9). I live with my boyfriend of 7 years and have two awesome dogs and two cats lol

I took all my pre reqs at HCC. Applied to Lonestar's nursing program at Cyfair as my back up plan. Was accepted last week! But I am really hoping I get to go to UTH! I had my baby at memorial Hermann and the L&D nurses there are amazing! My nurse told me all about her experiences as an L&D nurse and what they do. I think I might want to be an L&D nurse now haha

I like the introduction idea besides just our stats. There's so much more to a human besides their college coursework!

I'm Mel,

I'm originally from Chicago but moved to TX in 2006. I've had 3 beautiful boys. My inspiration to be a nurse comes from my two month old that passed away in 2011. He was undiagnosed in utero with HLHS, which is a fatal congenital heart condition. I have a lovely four year old and a bubbly 9 month old. I live with my partner of 4 years. Him and I have no animals besides our wild children LOL. I stopped working about one year ago to focus on school. I was raised by my grandparents, so I have a love for geri! That will probably be my specialty. I love old people and cardio! I'm not a fan of peds, because I could never work on those floors and not be a crying mess. I like biochemistry and biology a LOT and eventually hope to take my nursing career to research, or possibly a CRNA.

Every baby I've ever had, that labor and delivery nurse was my favorite person. They do such a great job of supporting moms in some of the most vulnerable times of their lives. Also, CVICU, PICU, and NICU nurses in my opinion should earn the title as saints. God bless them. Awesome specialties! Also that's super cool of you to raise your nephew. And congratulations on your sweet bundle of joy!

Kvida92, I tried to directly reply to your comment but I am forum inept. lmao

Haha just press the quote button and it should let you reply!

I'm sorry to hear about your baby. :(

I worked as a CNA for a bit and it was great! The patients are so funny and wise!

Wow a 9 month old? Lol I bet you got your hands full with him and your 4 year old!

Nursing school is already tough enough, but with a baby it's going to be even harder! But we can do it! Lol

So this is my 2nd degree that I am working on. My 1st degree from UofH (GO COOGS!) I got my B.S. in 2008, It took me 8 years to finish my degree lol I had my son who is graduating in May really young, so trying to finish up HS and then go to college and work while taking care of him, with help from my folks, took awhile. I originally wanted to go in to nursing back then, but my dad fell ill and I ended up being a caretaker for a while so I just needed to finish up and get out! I quit my job and took out student loans to survive and pay for health insurance and finished up my degree in a little over a year taking at most 22 hours (Which was NUTS and I don't recommend). So fast forward to meeting my now husband about 9 years ago, working, getting married, and then having a little girl. She is now 3 so I feel in a much better spot to give this a go again. I lost my dad 2 months to the day of my wedding, who was one of my biggest fans and my rock, but my husband is AMAZING and my mom and son are huge supporters of going back to school. My son actually thinks it's kind of neat that we will be in college at the same time. So I'm not giving up this time...the 1 thing I feel like I've taught my son is to NEVER let anything stand in your way of accomplishing your dreams...time to practice what I preach. I was a single mom for a long time with only my mom and dad to help, which is more than some ppl have I know, but I truly believe anything is possible...especially with an awesome family to cheer me on. Do ppl mind sharing their age? Just curious on the range of ppl we have in here applying. I will be 37 in Oct (on the older side of some it sounds like lol)
