Published

I haven't seen a topic for the UT Health Fall 2018 program, so here it is!

I am applying for the fall with following stats:

Prereq GPA 3.65

Science GPA 4.00

HESI (just took it last Friday):

Reading 90

Vocab 92

Grammar 84

Math 96

AP 100

I am making a career shift with a BS in Chemistry that I got from UH Downtown.

Good luck everyone!

I am 26. If I could give you internet hugs and hella high fives Jwal81! Yes we can so all do nursing school and children. I think it's great!

So this is my 2nd degree that I am working on. My 1st degree from UofH (GO COOGS!) I got my B.S. in 2008, It took me 8 years to finish my degree lol I had my son who is graduating in May really young, so trying to finish up HS and then go to college and work while taking care of him, with help from my folks, took awhile. I originally wanted to go in to nursing back then, but my dad fell ill and I ended up being a caretaker for a while so I just needed to finish up and get out! I quit my job and took out student loans to survive and pay for health insurance and finished up my degree in a little over a year taking at most 22 hours (Which was NUTS and I don't recommend). So fast forward to meeting my now husband about 9 years ago, working, getting married, and then having a little girl. She is now 3 so I feel in a much better spot to give this a go again. I lost my dad 2 months to the day of my wedding, who was one of my biggest fans and my rock, but my husband is AMAZING and my mom and son are huge supporters of going back to school. My son actually thinks it's kind of neat that we will be in college at the same time. So I'm not giving up this time...the 1 thing I feel like I've taught my son is to NEVER let anything stand in your way of accomplishing your dreams...time to practice what I preach. I was a single mom for a long time with only my mom and dad to help, which is more than some ppl have I know, but I truly believe anything is possible...especially with an awesome family to cheer me on. Do ppl mind sharing their age? Just curious on the range of ppl we have in here applying. I will be 37 in Oct (on the older side of some it sounds like lol)

You sound more than capable of handling nursing school!

I'm 25

Great idea! Especially since we will all HOPEFULLY be in class together :)

I was born and raised in Houston and currently live in spring branch with my bf of 6 years. I will be 32 this year and I have a 14 year daughter and a 9 year old son. I have been a medical assistant for about 10 years and have worked full time in an internal medicine clinic up until the beginning of the year when I moved to pulmonology. I am finishing my prerequisites this semester and look forward to finally move forward!! I love that so many of us have kids and know the struggle!

I love reading your stories! I really hope we get to meet each other in person when we *fingers crossed* all get in!

I'm 19 and have been living in Texas for about 2 years now. I live with my brother and am about to get my Associate's of Science the end of this semester. I love kids and have always wanted to be a NICU nurse, but I'm not sure how I would react to seeing sick babies! I think it's good to think of the positive side though, that I'm going to be able to help them get better!

Hi everyone~

I'm new to this whole "nursing school forum" thing, but I'll do my best to adapt well! I am 18 years old and just graduated high school in 2017 with my diploma and an Associates Degree because of a high school program I took that allowed me to be a half-time college student and go to high school at the same time. I am currently finishing up a few more prerequisites and hoping to transfer to UT health for nursing school :)

You get in there girl! Follow your dreams! Kudos to you for attacking college early! Err..well on time. Lol I'm old so I started late. Haha! Very much good luck wished to you!

Hi!!

My name is Hannah and I am 21 years old. I currently live in Austin will be returning to the Houston area for the fall for where ever I start school! I have a wonderful boyfriend of 4.5 years and a loving dog named Geronimo :) From an early age I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse and as I got older and being able to shadow a nurse in the NICU, I knew I want to be a NICU nurse!! I plan on getting my BSN and then continue to get my nurse practitioners! I should of applied for nursing programs this past fall, but I fell behind because I had 2 knee surgeries and could only be a half time student, so it pushed back in my studies! This is my first year applying for any programs! I applied only to UTH and UTMB so hopefully I will get in somewhere! I'm really excited to hopefully meet you guys in school!

Greetings everyone and hopefully soon to be future classmates!

I did not know I wanted to do nursing until about my 11th grade year in HS. I have always loved science and originally wanted to take prerequisites to study biology at Texas A&M and then get my degree in nursing. However, I decided against that last year and told myself I would just go straight into nursing, so here I am! I am now finishing up my last semester at a community college taking the amazing science prerequisites and I do not regret it at all because I love everything about them. I do hope one day to be either a Trauma or ER nurse, but I am taking it one step at a time. First thing is to get accepted into UTH! Lastly, I also earned my Associates Degree in Life Science last semester, fun stuff right? For everyone who is still taking classes, finish strong and good luck on the rest of the semester!

I think this is super great to see the diversity of our cohort!

I agree! It's nice to see different people of different ages! Cant wait to meet you guys lol soon...hopefully lol

Has anyone called the school to ask when they're expected to send out acceptances?

I have not because I assumed that it would be the 25th ish of May. Like my entire life is on hold while I wait! It's all good though.

I think I am going to call and ask soon, I hope it is early May! All of these stories are so inspiring! I really hope we get accepted, it seems like everyone has a good heart and is in this because of passion for the profession.
