Starting a thread for those applying to UT’s AE-MSN program. ☺️
@Gabby Chavez I think in interviews “tell me about yourself” is asking you to talk about the you that isn’t on paper. What are your hobbies/interests (I love running, being outside, reading xyz, etc) , where are you from, and things like that. it’s the color to the stuff in print if that makes sense? It’s also just an ice breaker. 4-6 sentences — I think it’s also OK to ask what the interviewer would like to know...

-Also, post masters routes.. anyone know if we can apply to that directly after MSN program? or will some nursing experience be needed?
I did a LinkedIn search about 6 months ago to see what I could find about job titles. It seems like some work in clinical settings and others have moved to teaching, some work in administration. Many of them have received post masters certifications and accreditations even PhDs. I remember seeing a few nurse practitioners and many supervisor titles.
Hi, everyone! I am in the AE-MSN 2020 cohort at UT-Austin. First, I am so excited for you all and for the journey that led you to the program. I can completely relate to how you all are feeling right now, what a whirlwind of emotions, right? Being in the LeaDS track, I thought I could provide some insight/advice regarding the interview. First, each track is different on who interviews you and what type of questions you are asked. For me, I echo what others who recently had their LeaDS interview have stated. That is exactly what I was asked. I would certainly have a clear description on why you chose AE-MSN versus an Accelerated BSN program, and refrain from saying "because I already have a Bachelors." Think, what differentiates this program from an accelerated BSN, and respectively, what can you do with an MSN versus a BSN? Other than that, make good eye contact, dress professionally, and I would say smile but the mask unfortunately will hide that. Smile under it! Most importantly, be yourself. The professors are really kind, made me feel comfortable and so much less nervous. They truly do want to see who you are holistically, not just who you are on your resume/CV. We all come from a different background and I believe that is what makes the AE-MSN program so unique.
@KB417 thank you so much for the insight!
As for everyone else who received an interview email from Tracy, I was wondering if we are required to respond to it to set up the interview? I know faculty are the ones conducting the interviews, however, I have yet to receive an email from a faculty member to set up a time to interview. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm confused!

Of course!

A faculty member should be reaching out to schedule it. I just emailed Tracy back to confirm that I got her email. Good luck and congrats on your interview!

IMO, it's really your personal story of why the program applies to you. It wouldn't hurt to talk about how you discovered the program and why you're picking it over others, especially why you picked that vs other MSN programs or vs a BSN program.
I talked about why I wanted a MSN instead of starting with a BSN. I also like the LeaDS program specifically because it doesn't give you an NP licensure and seems to allow a lot of flexibility. I've never worked in a clinical setting before. I have an idea of where I'd like to end up, but that could all change after entering the program, so I appreciate the more open-endedness of LeaDS. AEMSN in general also gives you a chance to work part-time as an RN after the Foundation year.

When you told them about yourself what did you talk about? Because they already know my past education/ my resume what I’ve done. Do I talk about stuff I didn’t mention? I’m so confused
