USPHS Pay Rates/Scales

Published

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to my question, but some confirmation would be great. Regardless of where you are assigned, the pay rate/scale is the same, right? So, if you find two positions, one in an expensive urban area and another in a less expensive city, that you equally like, it makes more sense to take the one in the less expensive city, right? The only difference is the amount of the housing allowance. If you receive $1,000 per month for rent, but only spend $500, you get to keep the rest, right? I hate to ask my recruiter such things (because he'll think less of me), BUT one DOES have to think about these things. Hmmm... Decisions, decisions!

If you go to the above web site, is should give you a list of all the agency's. Of course not all agency's use nurses and some use nurses but don't have anything posted at this time. The BOP and IHS are of course the most common ones used.

If the link does not work. go to the main web site and click on apply for job and then hit either the jobs available or agencies. Hope that helps.

It looks like BAH is going up in some places and going down in others...it seems to vary by rank too.

That will happen every year & it does vary by rank, the higher the rank, the higher the BAH. Once you are at a location your BAH can not decrease even if the rate goes down.

That is good to know that it cannot go down.

Yes, and it also depends if you have dependents or not. I have a dependent, and I get about 1100 a month, and I am a "baby" O-2. Its pretty good, and I live in GA.

I am an O1E and it is a pretty fair rate based upon my mortgage and utilities...I can't complain.
