Application: Summer 2011 BSNUR by Mackenzie C McDonald

Thank you for your application to the Summer 2011 upper division program. We have reviewed your application and have determined that your pre-requisite courses are met and that your GPA meets the minimum to be considered. Therefore, we have changed your application status and have moved your name to the eligible applicant list. The final list will be reviewed and applicants will be chosen after the March 15 deadline, so you can expect a final acceptance or denial decision by email 3-4 weeks after the deadline (late March/early April). Please remember: if you took classes outside USF, it is your responsibility to send transcripts showing those grades to undergraduate admissions so they can be calculated into the GPA no later than the deadline. Thank you.

Now all I can do is wait, wish me luck!

I was told a 3.7+ meant you were in good shape, so I am confused as well. I can't imagine how the writing sample could affect so many people in such a big way.

I know they changes the decision process this semester so that it weighed on 4 things instead of JUST grades. However, I thought GPA would still play a big part. I was told they looked at GPA, PreReq GPA, Writing Sample, and Experience. All things equal, that's 50% GPA. Plus, you had hospital experience.

I was a little bit surprised to see I had been wait-listed, but not as surprised as I am to see people with 3.9's and 4.0's on the list. I hope we hear back soon...

My mom seems to think it has a lot to do with demographics, since not long ago the Supreme Court ruled that a public university may use demographics as long it does not account for a major portion of the admissions process.

That could be true.

@very yes my mom told me the same thing today!! I have never even thought of that. Oh well :/

The majority of us on this forum are alternates... Odd.

Yes I noticed the same thing too. I have heard from other posts and some people said they called the school and were told there were 10-15 alternates. But it seems sketchy to me that everyone is saying they are an alternate. I wonder if they just put everyone they don't accept on that list? Idk...

10 and 15 are good numbers! I was worried there were as many people on alternate as there were accepted. I feel like some of the accepted people may not go because they've been accepted elsewhere.

I'm trying to stay as hopeful as possible!

I also applied for the USF Nursing summer program upper division. And I too have been added to the alternate list!! I applied with a 3.77 overall GPA and all As with 1B pre-req GPA.

I know of people were not accepted and have seen the email, it straight out says they did not get in. And I have also heard that the alternate list is EXTREMELY short (im talking like 10-15 ppl). ironically, it looks like the majority of alternates ended up on this post haha.

good luck to all :)

Specializes in none.

Keep your fingers crossed if you are on the alternates list. People may drop by Apr 4 is the first deadline for turning in the intent to enroll paper work. If somebody messes up that's the first chance to get in. Also background checks have to be in done by Apr 8. So who knows you still have some what of a chance. Keep applying don't give up.

I'm guessing a lot of alternates searched "usf alternates" or something and this forum came up... Haha.

DDoris, I didn't know about background checks, but they told us about the April 4th deadline. Thanks for the info!

Like I said earlier, I bet some people who were accepted will go elsewhere (UCF, UF, etc.)

Maybe because I got accepted to UCF also but USF is closer to where I live in Hernando County so I won't have to move just commute every day.

Are you SURE you don't want to go to UCF? ;]

Kidding. Though, their program is one semester shorter. I'm going to apply there for spring if all else fails. I'd graduate at the same time as if I went to USF in the fall.
