Anybody else applying to the University of South Florida's Nursing Program this Summer?
Overall GPA: 3.59
Prereq GPA: 3.88
Healthcare exp: minimal
Work exp: minimal
Got the following email:
Application: Summer 2011 BSNUR by Mackenzie C McDonald
Thank you for your application to the Summer 2011 upper division program. We have reviewed your application and have determined that your pre-requisite courses are met and that your GPA meets the minimum to be considered. Therefore, we have changed your application status and have moved your name to the eligible applicant list. The final list will be reviewed and applicants will be chosen after the March 15 deadline, so you can expect a final acceptance or denial decision by email 3-4 weeks after the deadline (late March/early April). Please remember: if you took classes outside USF, it is your responsibility to send transcripts showing those grades to undergraduate admissions so they can be calculated into the GPA no later than the deadline. Thank you.
I did not get in, I am on the alternate list . They wont tell you where on the alternate list you are though. So I will finish up my minor if I do not get in and try again next semester.
I'll definitely apply for Fall. I have a 3.61 overall GPA now [3.96 nursing] but if I get straight A's (which seems possible at this point), then my GPA will be a whole point higher. That should help.
I think what helped me is that I had a strong resume, and essay. I don't have a lot of healthcare experience but I got all A's in every science class. MY overall GPA was 3.59 and prereq 3.88 so I think GPA wise you are fine. Try to increase everything else and maintain or raise your GPA.
I'm vice president of USF's Undergrad. American Medical Women's Association, have been involved since I started here, volunteered at a hospital and a cancer center. IDK what else to do besides raise my GPA.
Then it must be your essay. Try to have someone read it before you resubmit it. Or maybe you just got unlucky because I heard there were a ton of applicants this period. Try to stay positive maybe you will make it as an alternate yet.
