USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2018

Published

Hey everyone, I thought to start a thread for the current University of San Francisco Summer 2018 application period for the ME-MSN for non-nurse program. I've read the threads from previous application periods and thought it would be nice to start one for this current application period. Feel free to start posting about anything you'd want to talk about or share.

Good luck everyone!

Hi Everyone! I applied as well to USF and like MandaNursePanda, I also applied to SFSU (I got waitlisted). I also applied to Marquette University's Entry Level Nursing Program and got in there but would like to wait and see about USF before I fully commit. USF is probably my first choice. Best of luck to everyone!

@HelpMeBecomeANurse I think I remember you from the other forum. Did you end up getting in? Did they offer you any feedback? Do you think you will apply again? Sorry for the machine gun questioning, but I am sooooo lost about this. I am not perfect, but I feel like I am competitive. I just don't want to keep giving money away if there is something I could fix!

@lmp23 I am so nervous too, now the 8-10 week wait begins...

@risingstarjes Did you apply anywhere else? Would you mind sharing the stats you applied with? TY!

@lmp23 where else did you apply?

I haven't applied anywhere else. I had a undergrad GPA of 3.9 but still have one pre-req in progress. However, I do know that USF likes to take a more holistic approach so I know the letters of rec and personal statement will be huge factors as well as the resume. I am unsure of how they exactly go about selecting individuals for acceptance because of this holistic approach.

I applied to SFSU also and was immediately rejected. I was mega shocked that I didn't at least get an interview because a lot of people put up their stats and mine were on par, if not better, than others. I REALLY wish they would give feedback on applications like that. I don't know if I didn't meet the requirements or if something wasn't submitted, or if there was another very minor issue.

They said they offer feedback but they literally wrote me an email that said: "Our program is impacted - we have a very competitive pool of applicants for our ELM - A program and only 24 spots. Thank you for your interest in our program. Best Regards, SF State School of Nursing." Which is probably the most useless email I have ever gotten. I wouldn't be so upset if I didn't have to do two apps, manually enter 234 units on two apps, and then pay TWO application fees to be considered. This whole process is very frustrating and their department didn't even notify me of their decision until weeks after others heard about theirs.

I sincerely hope that USF is more professional. SFSU is one of the cheapest programs and shortest so I am assuming a lot of people apply. I am on the fence about applying for Fall 2018 because I don't even know what to fix. What do you think? Where else are you thinking of applying?

Anyway, are you ging

YellowMaskrosbarn, do you mind sharing your stats? I would be interested in knowing the competitiveness of that program if they outright rejected you. It seems like a lot of these entry level nursing programs are very difficult to get into.

Hey, I only applied to USF, its my first choice, I really hope I get accepted. I also have physiology in progress. My GPA is average but I have about 9 years of expereince working with community health and I hope they see that and boost up my chances. I feel its hard to tell our chances because it also depends on the competitiveness of all the other students applying for this cohort.

@YellowMasrosbarnended I ended up not getting in--I was able to email them and ask what number on the waitlist I was and I already knew I wouldn't really have a chance of getting off (I was a little too far down). I didn't interview well there so I knew it was because of that

They did not offer any feedback and I haven't decided if I want to apply again...I think I am going to go to Marquette if I do not get into USF. I have just been debated because it would be such a big move!

@risingstarjes my last 60 units: 3.55GPA. I had a 4 on my GRE writing (I might retake it because I honestly did it last minute).

Research Assistant with Gale Goodman

UCD Aquatics manager, Sorority, Nursing Club, Peer Counselor, studied abroad, worked 1 year as a live in caregiver with foster children (I applied for the pediatrics specialty for SFSU), nanny for twin infants for the past two years, advocate for children and the prevention of neglect and abuse

CNA certified in 2014

600 hours in subacute care center as a CNA

Letters of rec: My boss who is a surgeon, my microbio prof (taught biological-fare war at UCLA), the former MLA president.

I have Bachelor's degrees in psychology and English.

The only thing I can think of is if my GRE scores are too low, they looked at my overall instead of the last 60 units, I didn't get the correct letter of rec from someone or they did not approve one of my pre-recs (even though I asked before applying). I REALLY wish they would tell you SOMETHING, especially since there are two apps and so many places to go wrong. Oh well though.

And I agree about the competitiveness here. It's insane!

Are you considering an ADN? Do you think the CNL is worth it? My boss doesn't seem to think so...

Hi everyone! I applied for the summer 2018. I live in SD so I don't know much about the schools up there. I heard USF looks for different things which can be great. I am also applying for the OC campus as thats way closer to me!!!! (If anyone knows anything about the OC programs, please give me some pointers) But I would love to go to USF if the opportunity is given :)

I am so glad to find this thread. I was so nervous with applying to this school.

I know it's still too early to say this, but I really hope we can all get in.

Hi,

I have applied for this program as well. What is everyone's GPA if I may ask.

GPA Science 3.74 Non Science 3.86

Hey everyone! I didn't apply to this program (I'm attending the Samuel Merritt absn), but I'm wondering if you guys know when the program starts if admitted. I'm trying to plan some stuff for a friend who applied and I'd love to have a sense of when it begins. Thanks!
